Guest guest
I received a Cormet 2K resurfacing from Dr Schmalzried at JRI on February 9, 2004. At three weeks post-op, I am absolutely astounded at my progress and so is my physical therapist. I am doing things that I could not do at six weeks post-op with the THR on my other hip and my range of motion is nearly as good now as it is on the 20 month post-op THR. Best of all, NO PAIN...with either hip. In May 2002, I received a m-o-m THR from Dr Mont in Baltimore. This was supposed to be a Conserve+ resurfacing, but WMT did not make the device in a size large enough to fit my femoral neck and Dr Mont had to convert it to a THR. I was very disappointed initially, but after 20 months, I can say that the THR has been everything Dr Mont said it would be and I can do everything I wanted to do, including skiing. I guess this makes me somewhat unique though, having both a THR and a resurfaced hip. It does give me a good basis for comparison, both now and far into the future--I am hoping 30 plus years into the future! I am also sure I have the only pair of " Mont/Schmalzried Hips " in the country! I posted an photo album documenting my experience on the HipUniverse website. If you are interested, the album is titled " Denny's Resurfaced Hip " . For those of you looking at surgical options, the x-ray taken immediately after surgery dramatically shows the difference between a THR and a resurfaced hip. I am not an orthopaedic surgeon, but just looking at the two hips, its almost a " no-brainer " which hip is less disruptive to the normal structure of the human hip... Anyway, if you are interested in looking at the photos, go to: http://groups.msn.com/hipuniversesupportgroup/dennysresurfacedhip ..msnw?albumlist=2>
