Guest guest
, You can try Lexington if you want, but the problem is if the doctor has never seen, therefore treated, an atypical clubfoot, they will do more damage than good in the end. At this time there are only a handful of doctors known that know how to deal with the atypical foot. This includes a few overseas doctors, Dr Colburn in California, Dr Mosca in Seattle, possibly Dr Herzenberg in Baltimore (not certain, but very likely) and Dr Ponseti. There are several of us on list who have children with atypical feet, and all but one, I think, have ended up in Iowa. I understand your husband's hesitancy to make that trip, but it may be your best option. If you would like to read about our experience you can go to our website at http://adifferentfoot.freeservers.com/ There our several kinds of atypical clubfoot, and this is just the story of one, but it might give you an idea of what we faced. We are lucky that by going to Iowa, we were able to bring our doctor (Dr Mosca) the information on how to treat this and now when we face additional casting we only have to go to Seattle rather than Iowa. Feel free to contact me off list if you want. My e-mail address is m_kitaki@... Angel Heard back from Dr. P Well I finally got an email from Dr. P and it didn't sound too good. He said that from the pics he thinks Tyler has " atypical " cf which he says is the hardest form to treat. He also said that we are going to have to get him the brace because the type of cf he has does not do well in the others. He said that he don't think that they would know how to treat the form of cf he has in Lexington and that he thinks Tyler should be seen by him. I talked to my hubby and he wants to see what they say in Lexington first. My first thoughts were to grab Tyler and head to see Dr. P lol. But guess I have to go with what the boss says. I have Dr. P's phone # think i will call him and see what he says in more depth and maybe I can talk hubby into just going to see Dr. P. We will see. Guest guest
, I'm glad that you heard back from Dr. Ponseti. I also hope that your dh comes around and sees that treatment by Dr. Ponseti is probably (definitely) your best decision - I know it's hard to come to that conclusion, especially when there are so many orthos out there, but truly, when Dr. Ponseti says they won't be able to treat Tyler in Lexington, he speaks the truth (and knows his stuff obviously). Dr. Ponseti would rather you seek treatment at home or closer to home if possible, he doesn't drag you out his way if he doesn't feel the need to. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you make this decision. I do know sometimes, money can be a definite restraint, either that or time, etc. - I just hope you can find a way to make this happen. Guest guest
, I'm sorry to hear that the news was not good from Dr. Ponseti. I'm just writing to also encourage you to please try to make the trip to Iowa. (Especially since Tyler's foot is atypical.) We actually have been to the Lexington Shriners and seen Dr. Talwalkar. Although I do think he is a wonderful man and a very good doctor, I doubt that he would be able to help Tyler. Our daughter Olivia does not have an atypical clubfoot (just your " run of the mill clubfoot " although it is the very severe kind), but Dr. Talwalkar was not able to fully correct her foot. We made 10 trips from Pennsylvania to Kenutcky and still ended up having to go to Iowa. Also, just for your info, I believe Dr. Talwalkar is the only doctor at Lexington that is practicing the Ponseti method, so if you do decide to try Lexington, make sure your appointment is with him. Good luck with whatever you decide! Jen & Livie (10-18-01 severe left clubfoot corrected at 6.5 months old, released early from brace at 1.5 years old due to loose ligments, relapsed at 2.5 years old, recorrected with one two week cast, and now wearing the brace 14-16 hours a day.) Guest guest
, I am sorry that you have gotten bad news from Dr.P but I agree totally with everyone who has responded to you. Please Please get your DH to reconsider going to see Dr.P you can get free flights with two airlines. One is Angel flights and I forgot what the other one is but there are people who have used both of them on here. Isabella has seen Dr.Talwalker and he seems like a nice man but I don't agree with the way he treats clubbed foot. I fell in my opinion and I hope I don't sound to rude but I feel if you see Dr.Talwalker you will be making a very big mistake. You need to consider what is best for your child and I think seeing Dr.P will be the best for everyones child who has this problem. You don't want your son to go through a long process and then end up not getting corrected right and having more problems and possibly surgery which could of all been prevented. As one mother said her daughter wasn't treated properly with Dr.Talwalker that to me is one to many. I hope I didn't hurt any feelings. I am just such a firm believer in getting a ponseti trained doctor or Dr.P himself. Guest guest
I know you have heard this from a lot of people already, but I also encourage you to make the trip to see Dr. Ponseti . We have made 6 trips since the middle of March from Ohio to Iowa and have not been disappointed. It is a long trip but the results are well worth it! We drove but I know a number of people have used the Angel Flights. The Mc House in Iowa City is wonderful also. The staff is always so kind. I just needed to share my opinion! Best of Luck with your decision. Bridget 2/20/04 bl cf sandals 20/7 littlebrat2002 littlebrat2002@...> wrote: Well I finally got an email from Dr. P and it didn't sound too good.
