We had to go into another cast and a Tenotomy and are now in the shoes. Is she staying in the DBB now? I guess I would just watch it very closely and if she continues to escape or gets another blister she may not be fully corrected or she may need to use the brace. You could always send some pictures to Dr Ponseti for some reassurance that her correction is still good. My dd still has not slept through the night, so I can't help you there. You are right to be so careful with it; others have said if not taken care of, blisters can become pressure sores which are very nasty. We also had a blister early on. We examined the way our son's foot was going in the shoe, and found that the foot must be rubbing (and therefore moving)in one area on the heel, which meant we weren't getting the shoe snug enough on his foot. We were able to put a blister block bandaid on the area and then tighten his buckle and shoe laces more. It seemed that this would be too tight, but this helped keep the foot immobilized in the shoe, which aids in preventing blisters. He was much happier when we tightened the shoe more. We found that as the leather softened, we had to buckle the shoe several notches more than the initial fit (which was in Iowa City). The blister did clear up slowly and never returned. We also found that our son, who slept through the night very consistently, did wake up more during the first month or two (but not terribly fussy), but he did return to solidly sleeping after that. I was concerned that you mentioned Lola spent two weeks out of the brace altogether. Dr. Ponseti says that even a short time out of the brace (days or less) can result in a reverse of the correction. When there are blisters, he has the feet put back in casts to maintain the correction while the blister heals. If you find you are having trouble again in the brace, you may want to check with your doctor to be sure the foot has not reversed correction- that will certainly result in more fussiness or blisters while in the brace!
