Guest guest
You know, I'm 15 pounds from my goal. I have the same problem, but I've found a new resolve now, that I will reach my goal. How I got that new resolve, I really don't know. Did you ever see the Shawshank Redemption? I know this is a bit far fetched, but stick with me a minute. In that movie, and I know in reality, the prisoners after being in prison a long time, don't want to leave the prison atmosphere. They have been institutionalized. Being free is a very scary thing. So, sometimes they do things so they don't have to leave, or so they go back in to prison after they have left prison. So, could it be that way for people like myself with a weight problem? Getting to goal and maintaining that goal is a scary prospect. Its a whole new world for us physically and mentally and with relationships. So, do we sabotage our goal just to stay dieting? Being on a diet is something we all know very well, and although we don't think we enjoy it, it is something we are comfortable with. 8.8 pounds will make a difference, because it IS your goal. Stick to that goal, make it happen with your eyes only on that goal. Then, after maintaining for a while, consider losing a bit more. Emotionally, it will do wonders for your self esteem, to reach that goal, and you will be thinking clearer once you get there and have maintained for a while. I suppose that is my new resolve. Just get to that goal. The last bit is so hard, every bit as hard as getting started. My vote is for both of us to just stick with it and make it happen. Introduce Myself Hello everyone, My name is and I joined WWs in February of this year. I have lost 35lbs and have not quite 9 pounds to go until I reach my goal. As I get closer to my goal I find myself needing more and more support. My spouse is very supportive and helpful and my mother is also on the WWs program and has been for years. I workout 7 days a week and enjoy swimming in the evenings. Exercise is my strength and I rely on it to provide a boost in my mood regularly. What I am finding I need support with is that now that I am so close to my goal, I don't know if I can be satisfied with the way my body looks at this point. And I don't think this last 8.8 lbs is really going to make the difference I'd like to see. Should I learn to be happy with what I've got or should I adjust my goal until I'm happy with what I see? Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks everyone
Guest guest
Thanks , And yes, I understand the Shawshank Redemption comparison and it certainly makes sense. I am very happy being on Weight Watchers and it's so exciting to have people excited to hear how I did on the scale every week and to have that encouragement. What happens when I meet my goal, all of those compliments and encouragement go away? It may sound strange, but I truly do look forward to getting weighed every week. It gives me feedback and lets me know that I'm doing the right thing for myself. I enjoy going to the meetings and love learning about how other people have handled the past week and what they've overcome. I want to achieve my goal, I truly do...but what then if I'm not satisfied. I am working toward not sabotaging myself and appreciating the work I've accomplished thus far and your support is much appreciated.
