Guest guest
I have 2 questions: 1)Is this a slow recovery Or does it take longer to recover from a resurf than from a press-fit THR? 2) Has anyone had a combination of hip and back problems?Lar, I've had back problems (probably exacerbated by a lifetime of bad hips) and can't walk any great distance either. I am finally up to 1/2 a mile after lots of work. I do lower back stretches and ab work to strengthen the muscles and a lot of walking in small bits. I may never be as active as others, but at least my hips don't hurt anymore. Guest guest
For me, and I gather from talking to my surgeon and other people here, recovery from a resurf is much faster than from a THR. Your experience sounds unusual, and so I wonder if it is the back problem. Sharry Back Problems causing slow recovery? I had both hips done during the last couple years. The first was a m/m THR with a press-fit stem. I was walking the day after the surgery (with meds) and was healed up with absolutely no pain within 4 months. I then had a resurface THR on the other hip. It has now been 9 months and I still can't walk more than 50 yards or so without pain. I had to stop PT because I was straining my muscles, not strengthening them. The surgeon said the implants were in the right place. I went to a rehab doctor who thought my back could be causing my hip and leg muscles to be weak and strain easily. MRI showed a very slight bulge in my L4 disk. May or may not be the cause of the slow recovery. I have 2 questions: 1)Is this a slow recovery Or does it take longer to recover from a resurf than from a press-fit THR? 2) Has anyone had a combination of hip and back problems? Thanks for the info. Guest guest
LAR< Look back a few weeks and see if you can find the posts from " Tom in San Francisco " . He has had pain ever since he started walking after surgery. He's about 3 months out. You may try to contact him to see what he thinks and whether or not he's been able to figure it out.He doesn't post often. Jim > I had both hips done during the last couple years.
