Guest guest
I went to the orthotist instruction file on our file link and read it...just b/c someone mentioned it. It says that the non-clubfoot should be set at a 25 degree angle. I thought it was supposed to be 40 degrees. Which is correct? Just Curious. Guest guest
It has been more recently - maybe a year or so - that Dr Ponseti has gone to setting the non-clubfoot at 25 degrees, and the word really hasnt gotten out about it. When he set up Kai's bar angles (he did it personally) he set the non-cf at 20-25 degrees and the cf at 55-60 (Kai's case demanded a smaller angle). From what I gathered from Michell Hall and Dr Ponseti the change was both a matter of comfort - 25 degrees being a bit more comfey thatn 40 - and to help prevent the normal foot from turning out, which sometimes happens with the brace set at 40. Guest guest
, I had emailed Hall about this sometime ago. Here is her reply: " ....the bars have been set at 45 degrees of abduction on the unaffected side for years. It is just in recent months that Dr. Ponseti has been decreasing this amount. He feels that it is not necessary to abduct the unaffected foot to 45 degrees. This is a new change, so I am not surprised that your son's bar is set at 45 degrees (the standard). Guest guest
Just thought I'd add that we've opted to keep Owen's unaffected foot rotated to 40-45 degrees.
