I don't know what the deal is with it but Christian had a 3 week cast with

his first doctor who was not " Ponseti Certified " .

This is the first I have heard about a " 3 week cast " prior to

tenotomy! I had always heard that after tenotomy it's a 3 week cast...

Then again, Zoe has a mild clubfoot and didn't require the tentotomy

and she was our second doctor's cast tech's first Ponseti patient.

I also don't recall hearing this mentioned before on the board, but

Kaitlin did not have a tenotomy or a 3 week cast. Dr. Frick is well educated

on Dr. Ponseti's method and quotes his studies all of the time. He is also

certified and reveres Dr. P.

I am wondering if instead of leaving a cast on for 3 weeks some doctors just

recast without manipulation the last 3 times of casting? Maybe because of

growth or to check for sores or to charge more to insurance?

I have never heard of a 3 week cast without a tenotomy. It makes perfect

sense with the tenotomy because of healing so much after the cut. It probably

wouldn't take much movement at all to move the tendons too much after the cut.

I am really wondering why a 3 week cast would be needed without a tenotomy.

Joanne,

I haven't heard of a 3w cast prior to tenotomy, then tenotomy and 3w cast

(that would make it an additional 6w on top of the initial 3-7! wow!) Just

a 3w cast as a last cast regardless of tenotomy or not. So if you have the

tenotomy you have a 3w cast, if you don't you still have a 3w cast. We

only had a 2w cast although Dr. Ponseti told me she would need a 3w

cast. At that point I was happy to have that cast off... but our issues

with sores and then her last healing cast being more abducted than either

her 2w cast or the first healing cast confuse me... so I don't know if it

was a good thing to do 2w. I don't know if it would have been fine or

not. I'm sure it would have. She only had that last healing cast on for

about 5 days anyway. It was the only one abducted to 70+ degrees and 5

days seemed to be just fine.

How many other babies that didn't have tenotomies didn't have a 3w last

cast? I thought the 3w cast was standard. Is this another modification we

need to be on the lookout for?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. We never had a 3 week cast. All one week

casts. No tenotomy, just straight to the boots and bar...
