Hi Marcy and welcome to the group. I'm Ellen, 48, 4 kids, Diagnosed

in March of this year, because of a routine mammo.

Good that you are seeing the surgeon today. They'll probably

recommend or schedule a needle biopsy on the mass and then send that

out for pathology. That can take anywhere from a few days to a week

to get results back. Those results will tell you what the next steps

will be.

Good for you for following up and getting your routine mammo.

Depending upon the results, there will be wayyyyyyyyy more questions

to ask. One step at a time friend - we're all in this together.

We've all been where you are right now, and it's not a fun place to

be. Knowledge is power and you'll feel better when you know what you

are facing. Whatever the outcome, you can handle it!

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Hugs!

Ellen

I know it is hard to stay calm. Try to remember that 8 out of 10

masses discovered are benign. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Ruth (Ruthiema)

These are worse case senerio, but you should be prepared for anything.

10 Questions to Ask the Cancer Surgeon

Why are you recommending this procedure?

What are the risks? How do they compare with the benefits?

How do I prepare for surgery?

What type of anesthesia will I have?

What happens during and right after surgery?

Who do I talk to about breast reconstruction?

How long will I be in the hospital?

Are there any complications?

When can I go back to work and resume normal activities?

What are the risks of lymphedema?

Before surgery, your surgeon should provide:

Specific instructions to follow in the days before surgery

An overview of the surgical procedures

Information about recovery and follow-up care

Also ask if he will be doing a sentinel node biopsy

Marcy welcome to the group. Eighty percent of lumps are not cancerous. Also

remember that breast cancer is NOT the death sentence it was once thought to be.

I had my surgery over 16 yrs and there are ladies here that are farther along

than I am.

Ruth pretty much covered question that you should ask the surgeon. I will keep

you in my prayers. Hang in there and let us know what you find out.

Hugs
