Hi Juldz,

Congratulations on the new baby! The shortest time I know of a cast being

kept on is one week (maybe a couple additional days if need be). Although,

if the cast is slipping off it would be removed and replaced immediately.

My son Christian received his 4th cast on Friday and we won't be going back

to the doctor until Monday because the holiday. I haven't heard of anyone

going past the three week mark with the same cast on so I guess that is your

time frame. I would think that special arrangements would be made to get

your baby's cast changed even if it came around the holidays.

Subject: How long between each cast, minimum and

maximum?

Hi Everyone,

Im 30wks pregnant and my baby has Talipes on its right foot.

Ive got a referal to a specialist in Ponsetti methods (trained in

America with Dr Ponsetti).

However havent seen anyone as yet.

My baby isnt due till the end of November, so only a few short weeks

till Christmas.

Ive heard that cast are often done every 5-7days, however worried

about the Christmas period. Often hospitals like to start slowing

down and doing limited treatment over Christmas and New Year.

What would they do if they had done 3 cast then it was Christmas and

New Year? Would they let the 4th one stay on a bit longer? If so how

long can they keep the cast on?

I dont drive and so also worried about getting to hospital when

transport is limited due to Xmas and New Year holidays.

Any help appreciated, especially from anyone who has experienced

treatment during holiday periods.

Julzd

Also what is the shortest time between casts & longest time?

Congratulations on your impending arrival!

Cast changes are usually a week apart, however, Dr. Ponseti is known

to change them as early as every 5 days when he's seeing out of town

patients who are staying for the duration the casting treatment. You

may want to check with your specialist to find out how you may be

affected during the holidays. Who will you be seeing in the U.K.?

On this list, I think we have parents who've been to see Gavin de

Kiewiet and also Naomi .

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and keep us posted!

Julzd,

My son Tyler has been getting treatment at a hospital that is a 5 to

6 hour drive from us. His doctor was going to let his casts stay on

for 2 weeks because it was such a long drive. Don't think that they

like to go much longer then that. The shortest time I think I have

heard is 3 days but they like it to be 5. Can you call the doctor

that they refered you to and ask him? Might east your mind a little

to hear it straight from the person who is going to be treating your

baby. Good luck and congrats on the coming of your little one.
