Guest guest
Thank you Joe for posting this. I'm glad to see others who have had positive experiences with their local OS. My Doctor, Dr. Ramus ( St. Louis, MO) was up front in saying he knew little about the procedure. I told him quite a bit about it before I had it and he was interested and agreed to do my follow-up. I also gave him a video of the surgery that came from medical (a friend duped it) so he could see the actual set-up. He was and still is fully supportive. He is the kind of physician who moves with the times, not against it. Many OS's are terrific. Lois C+ 3/27/03 Dr. Mont Not all US Orthopedic Surgeons are idiots! I know the word " idiot " is strong, but I am just trying get an important point across. It is easy to hear about ALL the US orthopedic surgeons who do not support resurfacing - afterall, people are more vocal about negative experiences than the positive ones. But I really wonder if the negative impressions regarding OS's who do not support resurfacing are now creating an inappropriate stereotype. My local OS, Dr. Knight, who is in Danville, California - yes I am giving him a plug here because he really does deserve it - was extremely supportive of my decision to have the resurfacing done. In fact, he stated that he felt I was a good candidate for resurafcing, and that the only down side would be if it didn't work he'd have to do a THR - which would have eventually been necessary anyhow if I did not have the resurfacing done. Furthermore, he and his office were a tremendous aid in the follow-up and monitoring that was done after I came home form the hospital - they even took care of my staple removal. So maybe we can get a few people who also had similar positive experiences with their local US orthopedic surgeon to speak up - so not everyone is given the impression that the only way to get an endorsement for resurfacing is via surfacehippy postings.
