JoAnn - Methadone works the same way that dilaudid or duragesic or any of the other narcontic meds do, it's just that some narcotics work better than others do. It's an case by case / individual kind of thing. None of them are muscle relaxers though...There's an entire other class of meds that work to relax muscles. That being said, I've found that I've been able to decrease my use of muscle relaxers (diazepam and flexeril) since agreeing to the regular use of narcotics.

You've got it. All the kids (and the dogs) will be arriving at my sister's house late Wednesday night for the holiday weekend. I'll spend as much time as I'm up to with them on Thanksgiving. Seeing them is always a joy for me. I take great delight and amusement at seeing them all together....They're like a skit from Saturday Night Live. How will you spend the holiday and to you and everyone else here....HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Love - Barbara

Thank you Barbara for the information. I just wondered how effective it was on muscle spasm type pain, for the inflammation and nerves........never heard anyone mention just what it helps with, say it helps but not sure what helps with exactly. Guess maybe asking for to much detail? Anyway, how are you doing my friend? I need to phone as miss hearing that Yankee accent although must admit that Ginny has you beat on this one. Love calling Ginny just to hear her talk and then hear her sweet son. Is like one minute smiling from her talking and next smiling listening to her son and her talk. Thanks for the great entertainment Ginny. Barbara what will you do for Thanksgiving? Will you go and spend time with nieces and nephews as think saw you wrote about that, just not sure. Hope you have good time. Well let you go before chapter 20 gets started

here.

have a question. Has anyone ever went from Fentanyl patches to Methadone? If so did it control the pain? How often do you take it? I ask because my doc and I were talking and I was just wondering about possibly switching because the Methadone is much cheaper. I have Medicare/Medicaid but it does not cover the whole cost of the Fentanyl which is quite expensive. I would appreciate any info on how Methadone works. Thanks guys, Love Jai

Hi Jai,

I was on 125mg of Fentanyl patches and they just weren't being that effective, I was having a flare up weekly. So we decided to switch to Methadone, yes I think it is keeping a more even amount of relief such as I am having. The patches I was changing every 60 hrs and I could tell on the last day that there wasn't much working. I am taking 30mg 3 times a day, with roxicodone for breakthrough.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, I will be gone for a couple of days so I will try to catch up when I get back.

In case I don't "see" you before Thanksgiving.

take care,

Lin

Jai,

I have been on Methadone now for about six months and it is for me the best pain relief I have had yet. The first week it brought a little lightheadness, but now I am fine on it. My pain doc increased it three times before we found the right balance for me, but now I am doing well. I say good things about methadone, because I have been on just about all narcotics out there and this one has by far given me the best relief! Even my mother told the doctor the last time we were in the office that my personality is the best it has been since he changed all my meds and I have been taking the methadone! All the other narcotics made me loopy, and also affected my personality. I have taken vicoden, percocet, ultracet, hydrocodene, Tylenol #3 with codeine, lido-cane patches, and have had morphine injections in the ER and methadone is definitely the best for me!!!! I take 60mg a day now and it does not affect my moods at all. I still

have some pain and today is really bad, but like the doctor said, the pain will never go away permanently! I hope I was able to help a little and I do know that medicine is not the same for everyone, but the methadone is very good for me! Take Care and have a great Thanksgiving! LOL and Best Wishes!
