I was a size 18, now down to a 12. I don't have loose skin that shows

(wink) but we won't talk about that. My arms don't resemble a flying

squirrel (Bette that was so funny!) but I use weight resistance. It is my

understanding that through time and keeping the weight off and exercise,

most of the loose skin goes away. When Larry King first lost all his

weight, I thought he resembled a turkey, but he is looking " better " now.

The loose skin that doesn't show, I blame on child birth. Although, I know

its more from bad habits. I would like to have a tummy tuck and a (ahem)

lift to put things back where they belong, but that doesn't seem very

economically feasible.

Loose skin after weight loss

I am rather concerned about having a lot of loose skin after weight

loss. I was wondering if anyone has any comments. Also, if anyone was

a size 16-18 and lost the weight, did you have loose skin?

I have just started, but it seems to me if you lose weight slowly and safely and

exercise, your skin will be OK.

I went from a size 16 to a 6 and the only saggy skin I have is from

pregnancy. I looked into having a tummy tuck a couple months ago and the

doctor said that it's highly unlikely that my belly flap will ever go away

(even with time and exercise) because of all the stretch marks. The skin

just gets to pulled and scarred to much and no amount of weight loss will

fix that. I went from 194 to 130 (2 lbs below goal) and the most I could

still loose is 15 pounds but I would be very thin. I am a lot more athletic

now then I was at 20 when I weighed that much anyway. I do still have larger

thighs than I would like and I also asked about a leg lift or lipo and the

doctor said no way. She said that my legs will probably look just fine after

I loose another 10 pounds (I want to get to 125 and I was at 135 when I saw

her). I lost my weight very slowly though, it took two years, and although I

didn't exercise at all the first year, the second year I started Martial

Arts and I think that helped keep things toned up.

So my impression is that if you gained weight quickly and did lots of damage

to your skin (stretch marks) then you will be more likely to have a problem

with loose skin. But if you loose the weight slowly (ww usually makes sure

of that) and do some sort of exercise to keep toned you should be fine.

I was a 22/24 and I have lots of loose skin. I hate it, but it wouldn't stop

me from doing it all over again. Plus I happen to have a family that has

unelastic skin, so your mileage may vary.

I too have a lot of loose skin. 56-year-old, previously full-of-fat skin,

to be exact. Believe me when I tell you that skin as old as mine is NOT

elastic anymore. But you know what? I'm waving my flying-squirrel arms

with happiness. Why? (I'm sure you're rolling your eyes and saying " WHY on

earth would she say that!!! " ) LOL! Why---because having loose, flabby skin

is WAY preferable over having it filled with fat. Maybe in time it will

tone up a bit....and maybe not. But in time, I do NOT intend to refill it!!

It's going to hang and wave as my forever-symbol that I've succeeded in

taking off (by then) over 100 pounds!

First of all - 16/18 would be an ideal weight for me :-)

Secondly - I'm not sure I'll CARE if I have loose skin. I had someone

reassure me that bc I'm young (if 34 is young) I'm less likely to have loose

skin, which is a nice thought. But yea, I feel like the gal who doesn't

care - my goal is to look good in clothes again - not nekked or in a bikini

(LOL).

Finally - You may want to look into what your insurance covers, bc some

consider belly flaps of skin a health hazard and will cover removal of it -

I'm not sure if reconstructing a belly button is bonus or part of the basic

surgery.

:-)

Looking forward to the adventure myself!
