But then again it might take more strength to pull the velcro? It seems like with the laces though you have a wider range of how loose or tight you make the shoes. Just my thoughts. Remember that there would be a fair amount of tension on the straps. Also they are opened and closed hundreds of times over the period of a week. Most velcro that I have tested, just does not hold up and won't hold after a few weeks of constant use. Laces, while a bit of a nuisance on a squirming baby, give you a more exact closure for the individual baby's foot/feet. Call me old fashioned, but for now I still feel that the laces are a better more reliable alternative. In my estimation and experience, it is more like only 7 times a week that the shoes are taken off and then put back one (i.e. once a day). And then the babies outgrow the shoes so quickly, too, I wonder if the velcro would wear out that quickly. I also think it would be very unusual for a young baby under 6 months to be able to remove the straps. I also don't understand why velcro couldn't hold up to the tension when so many children's shoes have velcro straps that do stay attached. I'm excited to hear that you are working on an open heel shoe design. We are currently using 's shoe, which has that feature, and it is very nice. As a parent, it causes less worry about knowing whether or not the heel is all the way down or not, it helps the feet breathe better, and helps prevent the blister factor, too. We will probably be transitioning into your shoes in the near future, so you may be getting more feedback from me at that point. In the meanwhile, thanks for your input on this board. So perhaps for the smalles sizes it would be better to stick with laces. I agree that once the shoe stayed on, then we hardly untied and tied them.
