Guest guest
For you oldtimers that remember San Francisco Tom, he needs some cheering up. I've been in contact with him to see what's happening with his predicament. i havent had the surgery yet so I'm following his with interest. At 12 weeks he had to go back to see Dr Mont because the pain in his hip is just as bad as before the surgery. They tried their best to figure it out but it hasn't helped. Doctor Mont said the surgery was a success but he's still in pain. He's very depressed and needs some cheering up. He doesn't post / read here anymore because he knows people don't want to see when surgery doesn't work. So for those of you who remember him send him an email. He's the one that fought Blue Cross for a year and won. this website won't let you print email addresse so his is t3man at aol dot com. Guest guest
Alyssa, you are getting a bunch of good advice from a lot of people. I'd like to add one thing. Have you tried getting off of eggs for a few weeks? That made the difference for me between D and Normal. Then, after a while, I was able to add eggs a bit at a time. Now I seem to be okay with eating eggs about 4 times per week. Before SCD, I never had problems with eggs ... that particular intolerance was masked by all kinds of other problems ... like grains. Wishing you the best in getting on the right foods, the right meds, and the quickest way to healing. I'm going to the doctor (regular) and accupuncturist today. With my doctor, we're going to look at some of our options such as LDN and b12 shots since people seem to have success with those. On the crohns/ colitis yahoo group, some people have mentioned pH treatment of IBD where you take a supplement to increase your pH. I'm not sure if this is the baking soda thing or not, so I'm going to learn more about that too as a possible option. I'll let you know how things go, and any additional advice is appreciated! Guest guest
Hi Alyssa, Sorry to hear you’re still struggling with symptoms; maybe you’re reacting to one of your core foods? Although I’ve never had D as one of my symptoms, when I had my bleeding episode a couple of months ago, the only thing that stopped it was Canasa suppositories. They stopped the bleeding in 2 days. Do you know where your UC is? If it’s in the rectum or lower colon, the rectal meds might be your best bet. I was med-free for 9 months but restarted my sulfasalazine (which I’m still taking just because I’m nervous to stop it again), and I swear it didn’t change anything except got rid of my pink-eye. Maybe by starting LDN at Mara’s suggestion and trying either Canasa or Rowasa, you might be able to get the symptoms under control. And yes, meds are there to help along with the diet. I’ve also been delving into the pH thing a little bit. I got some test strips and it’s pretty interesting – I’m very acidic at the moment I get up in the morning, but after eating fruit and yogurt for breakfast, I get high up on the alkaline scale, and then dip back towards acidity by evening. I haven’t decided if I’m going to try and influence that yet. Good luck! Kathy UC since 12/05 SCD since 7/07 Med-free 7/08-4/09 Back on 2g/sulfasalazine Posted by: " Alyssa Luck " luckycharms@... Guest guest
Hey Alyssa.. Totally agree with Hannah.. Lay off of the eggs if you are still having D. As for using baking soda to increase PH is this ingesting baking soda? That sounds awfully suspicious to me since most people with gut issues suffer low stomach acid. Some supplement with Betaine HCI. LDN is your best bet- you can always go off of it and try the big guns. LDN works really well with the diet. Guest guest
From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Alyssa Luck Ugh. So many things it could be! Ughhhhhhhh. I guess I should try it though. Thanks for the tip! Alyssa, The return of symptoms sucks. Plus, it’s alarming. It has happened to me and probably most people on this list. Just try to go with the flow, so to speak. Comb through everything you are eating for illegal ingredients. And hang in there, healing takes time and you have just started. There may be set backs along the way, but each one will be less severe than the last. Plus, you’re doing great! It’s a shock to have to up and change your diet in such a drastic way. Hang in there Alyssa! Carol CD 21 yrs SCD 4.5 yrs B12 shots & LDN _,_._,___
Guest guest
" you are getting a bunch of good advice from a lot of people. I'd like to add one thing. Have you tried getting off of eggs for a few weeks? " Just seconding Hannah's input, Alyssa. When my son first started SCD it took him approximately 5 weeks to realize that eggs were the contributing factor to his continued D. Once he stopped eating them, the D cleared in a week. He did have eggs at Christmas (2008) that were an ingredient in an almond flour bun and ended up in the washroom with major D within a 2 minute timeframe. It again took about a week to get things back to normal. In the last two months he's been able to eat a small amount of egg in baked goods (i.e. once every 3-4 days)but he's taking it slow.
