Guest guest
Hi, again, I never dreamt I'd ask a question here regarding myself! I just read in the messages that heavy metals can cause hypothyroidism. I have this (my MD has been trying to get me on Rx for the past year); I also have gluten intolerance(/celiac?) and focal dystonia (localized neuro impairment). I attributed all of the problems to 40 years of un-dx'd gluten intolerance. The weird thing is that my focal distonia (of the right hand) developed suddenly at the onset of my third trimester while pregnant with my 8 yo son who has ADHD/Asperger's. Anyway, I went to a nutritionist who said I had copper overload but never did any labs. Is copper usually the culprit in hypothyroidism? After chelation, are people able to go off of the synthroid medicine? I don't know when I'll find time to address my own health issues but any feedback/info is appreciated. Guest guest
Get a hair test for you! You might get an answer on what is behind some of your health issues... > Hi, again, > > I never dreamt I'd ask a question here regarding myself! > > I just read in the messages that heavy metals can cause > hypothyroidism. Guest guest
According to my son's MD, hair testing is illegeal in New York State. Does anyone know a way around this? My son's hair has never been tested either. Guest guest
> I never dreamt I'd ask a question here regarding myself! > I just read in the messages that heavy metals can cause > hypothyroidism. yes, mercury does this pretty commonly. I am concerned about how this was determined. A lot of people have been told they have high copper but they do not have high HAIR copper, and you should go by the HAIR level. This comes up a lot because there are many ASD kids with high copper on other tests. I think getting a hair test to see if you have high hair copper would be a reasonable idea. If you do, you need to address it DIFFERENTLY than mercury..... > Is copper usually the culprit in > hypothyroidism? I don't know--- I know that mercury often is a culprit. I know that mercury toxicity is much more common than copper. I don't know if copper also is a culprit. > After chelation, are people able to go off of the > synthroid medicine? I think it varies how much (and how soon) the thyroid recovers. I'm sorry I don't have more data to shed light on this. > > I don't know when I'll find time to address my own health issues but > any feedback/info is appreciated. I hope you find the time!
