Guest guest
Hi, Not sure if the Culturelle is helping or hurting. I started taking it to help with chronic diarrhea. I am noticing that I am starting to " break out " on my chin...which is always an indicator of worsening dysbiosis for me. My skin has been great for months. I don't understand what threw things so off for me. I take Oil of Oregano every night. Just wondering if Culturelle has caused problems for anyone else....? Or could it be that my water filter was due to be changed last month and I haven't done it yet? Thanks,

IMO, it's generally a good idea to supplement with a probiotic that contains multiple strains - not just one, even though it's a beneficial strain. There have been some cases of folks taking an acidophilus product (which Culturelle is) and developing acidosis as that one strain took over. Usually, these folks are already very sick or have had intestinal bypass surgery. Nonetheless, I think it much more effective and safer to use multi-strain probiotics (keep in mind that intestinal bacteria work *synergistically*). The one I have had the most success with and that I know has helped a large number of people and pets (some with astounding results) is Primal Defense. It's the grandadday of probiotics, IMO. I pay $32 for the powdered form from iHerb. Another very good one with 5 strains is Custom Probiotics out of Hawaii. Both of these products not only contain some of the more acidic acidophilus strains, but also some bifidobacteria (for the large intestine). Acidophilus predominates in the small intestine and bifido in the large intestine, which has a higher pH than the small intestine, so tends to attract bacteria that are less acid-loving than the acidophilus strains are. With products like Culturelle, you're basically mainly populating the small intestine when you don't know if your problem is mainly in that section of your gut or not.
