Guest guest Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Hello all. I hope you remember me from last week. I amthe one whose TSH shot up a ridiculous amount in onemonth for some reason and am trying to get pregnant somy doctor keeps checking me monthly and adjusting mydosage of Synthroid. Here is what he tested for thismonth and the results, I finally got them in the mail:TSH: 4.918Thyroxine (T4): 10.2T3 Uptake: 29Free Thyroxine Index: 3.0Is this all he needs to be testing for? What do theseresults mean if anything? Since I got these results, he switched me to 50Synthroid every day, as opposed to alternating between25 and 50. And he's testing me again in two weeks. Isthere any other tests I should get? Thanks! Access over 1 million songs - Yahoo! Music Unlimited. Quote

Guest guest Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 KB: Anytime your doc runs an uptake test....its outdated. You really want to do t3free and t4free and tsh...WHILE never dictating dose by TSH. The frees are the hormones...so that is what the doc should focus on. Its best to have those frees in the upper third or even over the range.....pushed to the point you have zero symptoms. By the time all that happens...usually the TSH is suppressed...and that is why you don't to go by that. ~E:) Kathy Billie wrote: Sure here they are:TSH: 4.918, the range is 0.350-5.500 (however my doc is trying to keep my TSH between 1 and 2 since I am trying to get pregnant, last month it was 1.5 and this month it shot up to this suddenly)Thyroxine (T4): 10.2, the range is 4.5-12.0T3 Uptake: 29, the range is 24-39Free Thyroxine Index: 3.0, the range is 1.2-4.9What do you mean by outdated? Guest guest Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 I have had some symptoms lately. A lot of times my symptoms that I get are similar to hyper too, disrupted sleep, joint pain, foggy thinking, lethargy. And of course, not being able to get pregnant. I will make sure that I get the frees tested in my next test next week and I will post them again along with my TSH. I think my doc has been dosing me based on TSH because he doesn't ever get the frees. The two that he said are the main ones are T4 and TSH. So I don't think he even looks at the frees. He's never really mentioned it to me before. But the office usually just sends me a script and then I can mark whatever tests I want on it and then discuss the results with him. So I might just do that next time. [The_Thyroid_ Support_Group] The results are in! Hello all. I hope you remember me from last week. You may find that you have to go doc hunting. If this is the case...its best to find a holistic practioner or a hormone specialist. Guest guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Hi Kathy, I had my TSH at about 2 for a couple years and this past year one month it came in at 7.67 and I FREAKED – my T3f and T3f had not changed so my doc was not worried. The two things I had changed since that last reading were I was taking Lexapro, an antidepressant and I was on a soy-based diet. I dropped the lexapro and cut back the soy and my TSH came in at under 1 the next reading. Have you made any changes at all between the time it went up to 4.918? If not, sometimes it’s just a bad lap reading. sue Sure here they are: TSH: 4.918, the range is 0.350-5.500 (however my doc is trying to keep my TSH between 1 and 2 since I am trying to get pregnant, last month it was 1.5 and this month it shot up to this suddenly) Thyroxine (T4): 10.2, the range is 4.5-12.0 T3 Uptake: 29, the range is 24-39 Free Thyroxine Index: 3.0, the range is 1.2-4.9 What do you mean by outdated? He's run a ton of tests multiple times before, this is just what he ran this month. Re: The results are in! see what to watch. Quote
Guest guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 I have not done anything different since the last thyroid test, which was why I was so freaked! I actually had another question. Since I have been trying to get pregnant and my thyroid is under constant surveillence, I have been monitoring my cycle also. Since I started having thyroid difficulties, my cycle has changed in one way. I get this annoying pre menstrual spotting that can last anywhere from 3-5 days before my period. I have read on other boards that thyroid problems can cause issues with your cycle. My gyn is not concerned and the thyroid doc says it has nothing to do with my thyroid. But why would it have happened at the same time? --- JustYourTypeDTP wrote: > Hi Kathy, > > I had my TSH at about 2 for a couple years and this > past year one month it > came in at 7.67 and I FREAKED my T3f and T3f had > not changed so my doc was > not worried. > The two things I had changed since that last reading > were I was taking > Lexapro, an antidepressant and I was on a soy-based > diet. > I dropped the lexapro and cut back the soy and my > TSH came in at under 1 the > next reading. Guest guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 That’s a good question. My cycle has been exactly 28 days for the past 5 years or more. The last two months it was 35 days and this month I am 10 days late. I am thinking menopause.... I am 48. Had my hormones checked in April and was told they were “perfect” and not menopausal. The saga continues. As far as your TSH, I think it was just a bad read or bad meds... Or a combo. Mine jumped right back down and when I added cytomel went “hyper” by the ranges. sue I have not done anything different since the last thyroid test, which was why I was so freaked! Guest guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 My gyno explained to me that with having thyriod problems, even the slightest change in hormone levels could affect periods. He also said that weight change, stress, etc. also do make changes as to how our periods happen and that as long as I stayed within the 21-28 day cycles that was normal. He also said that for many women their cycles are not 'clockwork' say every 28 days, that they could change from cycle to cycle and if that was 'normal' for them, there wasn't anything to be concerned about. Now for me, even losing 5 lbs can shift my cycles. I have that spotting before my period.. although it's not so much spotting, it's more like a mucousy discharge with dried blood in it. This is common for many women as sometimes it can be an infection although it is most commonly the body adjusting and um 'priming' our vaginal areas so that we can more closely become pregnant, much like ovulation. Through history, women's bodies adjusted their own chemistry to aid in the propelling of the species, when they were sick or when their bodies were off, so it's really hard to say what exactly is 'normal' but what is 'common'. Like for instance, growing up from age 12-19 my periods were horribly painful and I needed constant birth control pills to manage the pain. After my thyroid problem started (a year after I went off of BC pills), my pain has stopped and my periods are not uncomfortable to me. We are supposed to bleed on our periods, we are NOT supposed to feel pain during our cycles and when we do it is because our hormones are out of balance. I've been in 'common' ranges for a few years now and this is how I know my thyroid is being managed mostly properly from month to month based on how my cycle cramps are. Usually I'll cramp for about 1/2 an hour or so on the first day of my period.. which feels much like diarrhea cramping and for the rest of the cycle 3-7 days, I don't feel anything. My bleeding is still as light or heavy as it always was, the only difference being my cramping levels and my tiredness levels have gotten better to. If you notice a burning sensation or it feels much like a yeast infection or if the discharge looks like cottage cheese or is milky, you'll probably have an infection. If it is closer to being clear like raw egg whites, it may not be an infection at all. What you eat can also effect the shape of your vagina. Chemicals in certain foods will swing the pH balance of your vajaja as well. I hope this helps... Guest guest Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Thanks for your input! That was very helpful. I have the same kind of pre-period spotting that you do. It's definitely not an infection. Maybe when my thyroid finally stabilizes out, then it will be better. --- Teague wrote: > My gyno explained to me that with having thyriod > problems, even the slightest change in hormone > levels could affect periods.
