Guest guest
Does anyone else have a child who reacts badly to the chlorine & other chemicals that may be used in treating swimming pools? We took our kids out of town for the weekend, and they swam in the indoor pool. Our 4 yr. old (Mikey) who also has the GI issues, had a horrible night that night. I don't know whether it would be called a night terror or what you would call it...but he does it everytime he is in the pool. We have always chalked it up to being away from home, out of routine, ect...he loves to play in the pool. Anyway it was hard to tell if he was awake or not, his eyes were open but he wasn't really " there " and he was screaming at the top of his lungs trying to get away from everyone including himself...I was holding him, he bit me, got loose and ran into the bathroom...I got him out of there and he ran to the bed, and just kept crawling back and forth on the bed like he didn't know where to go. He was punching, and biting himself and anyone that got near him...Finally after a long while I was able to get him calmed down and he went immediately back to sleep. The next night we went to a different hotel w/no pool...he slept all night. Like I said we had always assumed it was because of being away from home but then started wondering about the pool....any thoughts? Guest guest
YES IT IS THE CHORINE! Just recently I finally have been able to connect the bizarre episode we had with a pool last summer. In the midst of playing in the pool, my 7 yr old daughter went in the house and requested to come in and watch a movie. At the time, she seemed really out of it like. She said she was tired and her heart hurt. No meltdowns, but she was definitely was not herself and I was fearful of an asthma attack by her comment, but it didn't happen. Next day she was still a bit off, but mostly fine. Turned out she was playing with a toy duck in the water, that is one of those non-toy things that emits chorine from it. I also know now she has a bad case of yeast/bacteria overgrowth; leaky gut; and sensitive to chemicals. She then explained that she has had " that " feeling before in pools. Also we have chlorinated tap water, and looking back I am sure baths might have been linked to some of her meltdowns. We are now getting a filter to install which will remove the chorine from the water for baths. To add insult to injury, for 3 years she consumed 3-4 glasses of this lovely chlorinated/fluorinated tap water into her leaky gut. Kari [ ] swimming pool chemicals?? Guest guest
Sam, My son can not tolerate chlorine. Keep in mind that chlorine also has copper in it. My son is environmentally ill, and chemically sensitive. His detox pathways are not functioning well. Please check into doris Rapp's video on children wth environmental illness. It is called " Environmentally sick schools " . I had been searching for a non toxic approach to chlorine, but there wasn't anything! So we moved and didn't get a home with a pool this time. My concern would be whether your child is environmentally ill. We found out after a while that we had to make our home environmentally safe in order for my son to be able to function. My husband and I stopped wearing perfume and colonge. We only use fragrance free, chemical free cleaning supplies. This has taken a huge burden off of my son's liver, immune system, and brain. He is doing great. However, it is a very compromised life, the food restrictions, avoidance of people and their homes due to fragrances from what ever. It is all worth it, we got our son back. I hope through the avoidance, that he may regain his health quicker. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
Chlorine is neurotoxic especially to children. It is very reactive and in my opinion will pull down any buffers such as magnesium and bicarbonates (both low in autism). My daughter reacts horribly in chlorinated pools (obviously we avoid them now). Taurine seems helpful in dampening the reaction as does magnesium carbonate. What is sad is how prevalent chlorine seems to be in our environment. How long before they realize what they are doing to our children.
