Well, I just got a metallic hemiarthroplasty resurfacing prosthesis

for the hallux metatarsophalangeal joint.

Say what?

I had a hemi-resurfacing of my big toe. They use a cobalt chrome

implant to replace one of the articulating surfaces of the joint.

Due to OA, I had lost most of the cartilage in that joint and a ridge

had formed from the bone-on-bone articulation to the point that I had

little movement left in my toe joint.

Because of my research on hip resurfacing, I found a similar

procedure for the toe. Statistics for this procedure revealed good

or excellent clinical results in 95% of the cases up to 33 years.

I had an excellent surgeon (who also does a lot of knee replacements)

and I'm looking forward to an excellent recovery. Now I can

concentrate on my hip.

Wow and double wow - who would have ever thought of it. congrats

Rainer - looking forward to hearing more about your hip now, but keep

us updated on how the toe does too. Despite the difficulty of

actually accessing medical care in Canada, once you get it it is

excellent.
