Guest guest
Tory, Just curious if the pudgy girls you speak of are white or African-American. There's been a lot written about how overweight African-American girls have better self-images, and fewer eating disorders than their white counterparts. I imagine the flip side is that they are less motivated to change their habits. Don't know the racial makeup of your students, but I was wondering if you observed the same thing. Tory wrote: Another interesting thing is that many of my pudgy girls who wear the tight fitting pants with their bellies hanging over the top were SURPRISED to find that they were in the overweight category. On the one hand I think it's great that it's not as big a hangup. But at the same time it makes me wonder what they see when they look in the mirror. On the flip side I had to encourage more than one NOT to go on a diet because it isn't necessary when you're normal weight for your height.
