Guest guest
Hi Zena, The point of using 4 years as a reference point may be to enable useful statistics to be compiled. Since techniques are continually evolving and new procedures being tried, it is useful to have a large number of patients reach some predetermined milestone in order to evaluate results of different approaches and allow doctors to compare options for their patients. They say cancer is cured if you go 5 years without a recurrence, when in reality some increased risk will always remain. It's just less as more time passes. It's my guess that if you make it to four years post-ablation you have a good likelyhood of going considerably longer (or permanently) without any return of symptoms; i.e. each successive year post- abalation carries less risk of recurrence then the preceeding year.
