pain at week 4

Great to read your emails, hippies. I am now at the end of week 4 since

the BHR to my right hip.

I'm 62 years of age and had been making steady progress without pain. During

the last three weeks at home I have had no painkillers until today.

Ibuprofen is now helping.

I had progressed to walking 1.6 miles without sticks, and had been able to

lift the bad leg onto the bed without pain or assistance.

Suddenly I have experienced hip joint pain and I'm back to using the

elbow crutches. I cannot begin to lift the bad leg by itself, and it takes

several stiff painful steps to get moving after sitting down.

Has anyone had experience like that? I wonder if I overdid it walking

the 1.6 miles. The previous week I limited the daily walk to 1 mile. I slept

on my good side for the first time a couple of nights ago... otherwise I've

been on my back.

,

I experienced a little setback around week three or four although I

was using a cane and wasn't walking for exercise. I thought it was

hip/joint pain but think that it was really thigh muscle

soreness/stiffness and pain from all that was cut and stitched back

together during surgery. I didn't start walking for exercise until

after five weeks (without the cane) and still there are setbacks,

times when it is more sore than the day or week before.

After sitting down it's always slow moving when getting up

especially after being seated for a long time. The longer I sit the

worse it is. Once I get moving I'm OK but feel like I'm 85 years

old when I first get up (and I'm almost 49).

From what I've read here, it's typical to feel like you're taking a

step back sometimes after taking one or two steps forward. I think

that we all forget that we've had major surgery because the hip pain

that we've had is gone instantly after the operation.

Keep up the exercise! Decrease the amount or skip a day if you're

sore (I'm not sure how far I'm walking but had been walking 25

minutes at a decent clip and today increased to 33 minutes - feels

great at 8 weeks post-op).
