On one hand, proteases may 'irritate' the ulcer so it is generally advised against particularly in the beginning so you won't have discomfort. One the other hand, there are studies showing proteases are pretty good at healing ulcers. One option that seems to work rather well is to start off with an enzyme product that is lower in proteases or has no proteases. Then after being on enzymes for a few weeks to a month, the gut is healed enough and adjusted to enzymes, so a strong protease may be added. This allows you to add in proteases at a rate that is beneficial and more controlled. Some use Zyme Prime or No-Fenol from Houston and then add in the Peptzyde later. (strong all protease). Carbo from Enzymedica is quite low in proteases, and then add in one of the all protease products later. They also make Gastro which is for very injured guts and has no proteases. http://www.enzymedica.com/product_detail.cfm?productID=4 http://www.enzymedica.com/product_detail.cfm?productID=7 But that is the general strategy. Hopefully, the ulcer will improve on enzymes overall. What other digestive aids were you considering? Enzymes and improved digestion may make some unnecessary, but might not eliminate the need for others. .
Guest guest
I got the Tyler product initially from my son's doctor, then bought it online at www.ritecare.com This was awhile ago. It does have amylase and lipase to break down starch and fat, but no protease to break down protein. Enzymedica also makes a product called Gastro that I have used too, and continue to use for my son at times. After a few months on a gut-healing regimen, he now tolerates Houston enzymes without a problem. Kim > > > > can anyone recommend a digestive enzyme for a person with an > > ulcer?
