I too had some difficulty when I was 40 ish. By having an endometrial ablation, I was thankfully able to avoid having a hysterectomy. Sounds like the ablation provided the same relief as the Depoprovera. Barbara jomal1@... wrote:

They started me on Depo after several years of heavy periods and horrible PMS. I had my tubes tied 20 years ago, and knew that children were not in the future for me. I had several D & C's, etc. and it was depo or a partial hysterectomy (at 40!!)

I have not had a period since then (and I love that).

My husband knows when I'm due for a shot, as I start getting a bit anxious and PMSy..

I have not had any ill effects at all.

I would NOT advise it for someone who may want to have children in the future.
