Could someone post some links as to why swimming in chlorine is bad for our

children? My family has very strong reactions to bactaceal(spelling). We all

love to swim and have a yearly pool pass, should I not take them to the pool?

Thanks for any help and info to read.

Yes, try to avoid the chlorine products and then use the epsom salt

baths afterwards... or an epsom salt cream... also have read that

taurine taken about a half hour before going in the pool can be

helpful. If this was a long term thing, you might also look into

whether you could have a steam sauna installed. My dh swims at a

pool and he just started using their sauna--sits in it till he can't

stand it and then gets out and showers off again (to wash off the

toxins) and his skin doesn't have that " pool smell " anymore.

I have been told that the algaecides that usually come along with the

chlorine, are partly to blame. They are full of copper!

My son has reacted terribly to some public chlorine water, (waterparks, and

Disney and universal)

but not nearly as bad swimming in our neighborhood pool. I wonder if those

public areas have much more chlorine, or something different? Who knows....

It is such a dilemma to figure out whether the great benefits of swimming

out weigh the problem with the chemicals. I wish I had my own pool. I would

use an ozenator and hydrogen peroxide for cleaning.

Some kids are chemically sensitive, which has already been mentioned here.

Chlorine is added to public pools to keep the bacteria out. So it can

cause a yeast overgrowth issue in susceptible children. My mother

even makes sure my kids don't bring any food anywhere near her pool,

because she says if food gets into the pool, " weird fungi grow on the

side " .

So you might want to increase your yeast protocol when you take your

kids to the pool.

I appreciate the advice and the links. I will be very cautious and watchful. I

do not yet give taurine to my son, it is one supplement I have not researched

yet. How would it help with the chlorine and the side effects? We do give ES

baths and they do work wonders for calming him.

Thank you for all your help I appreciate it.

I don't have links handy, but the thing is that the chlorine IS

absorbed through the skin. If this is a child that is chemically

sensitive or has difficulty " excreting " things, such as metals or

other chemicals, then the repeated buildup of chlorine is probably

going to cause a problem for them. You may see it come out in the

form of a weaker immune system, increased stimmyness, poorer eye

contact, changes in " mental " symptoms like being more obsessive about

things or changes in mood/temper...

The pool is so helpful for the kids in physical development that it

does just stink that they can be so sensitive to the chemicals in the

pool. It's really up to you to gauge whether to do it or not. We

swim one time a week and take a week off every now and then. I can

say that since we started doing this a few months ago, I do feel that

my son is having some trouble, but on a very mild scale. I have

started giving him ojibwa tea of life again to help clean his

system. So for now, the benefits of going to the pool are

outweighing the slight changes in behavior. BUT, a few years ago,

the changes were not so slight-- it was pretty bad and we had to stop

going. So gauge it by what you see... do the ES baths, do the

taurine, and see what happens. My dh is going to start taking my son

into the sauna with him and then showering off afterwards and I think

that will help get the chemicals out of his skin, too.
