I knew there were support groups on the web, but I did not want to be involved. I was diagnosed a year ago with Stage 2 and 4 lymph nodes involved. I had a lumpectomy and margins. I had my first mammogram last week since the diagnosis. It looked clear but I too have to go every six months for a mammogram. I am an RN who at one time worked in oncology. The nurses at the center where I had my treatment stated that I knew too much to be z patient. My education as a nurse was not enough. I went on the internet and explored the meanings of the terms that were thrown at me. One of my greatest fears was death from cancer. I have two beautiful grandchildren who worship this gramma. I intend to see them graduate from college. I had a great surgeon who did lymph nose tracing with radioactive dye to see the involvement of the lymph nodes before he did surgery. I guess I was lucky to be in the business. My oncologist.s nusre and I are not only collegues but good friends. He coordinated my treatment and made referrals as needed. Worry about the spread is always there. It took four weeks from my mammogram to get a diagnosis because I was injured at work and had to have another emergency surgery. It was another two weeks before I started chemo. I had Chemo every two weeks for 8 treatments with Cytoxin and Adriomycin then I had Taxol weekly for another 12 weeks. I then had 35 radiation treatments. I completed treatment in May. If you need me to talk to, my email is cayocum@.... Guest guest
hi--i'm marisa, 46 - was diaagnosed April 25, 2006 - stage I/II (really on the cusp - my surgeon said it was stage I, the onc. said stage II)...no sentinal node involvement, clear margins, no lympho/vascular involvement...er/pr+ and her2+. had a lumpectomy may 1, started A/C June 8 - 4 treatments - now am half-way through taxotere/herceptin (12 treatments in all) - then just herceptin till next summer... I have one son - he's 8, and I'm a widow (indeed, I got my diagnosis on the 2nd anniversary of my husband's death) i am really glad to have found this group... marisa --- Ellen wrote: > Hi Kath and welcome!
