Kallie, I'm not an expert in this area - but we own a ProForm (i believe

its' the 520 model). We

bought this at least 8-9 years ago (for like 6 or 7 Hundred $$$'s) and

its' served us wonderfully.

We do everything from walking to 6MPH runs on it. I remember looking at

more expensive

$1000-$2000 treadmills, but our budget couldn't afford it. The higher

you go in price, you'll

get more features, like pre-programmed walking routines - but you don't

really need them. The

ability to adjust speed and incline is really all you need. Also, the

more expensive the treadmill,

the nicer the " tread " - you can get wider treads that are " bouncier " .

The ProForm's are, I believe, the same treadmills which are rebranded

and sold as store

brands at Sears (least they used to be). We've been really happy.

One Major recommendation. BUY THE SERVICE CONTRACT!!!! I don't usually

recommend the service contract on electronics, but in this case its'

paid off big time. I've

had the tread replaced, the burnt out motor replaced, the whole

treadmill cleaned and

adjusted several times - its' been well worth the $60/year.

Hi Kallie,

Personally I have a Proform 860QT and would recommend it. I have had it for

about 2 years now. I started out by just walking, but am now running on it. I

really enjoy it. It can be connected to www.ifit.com to download programs or

just use their cds and videos to run programs. The most important advice I can

give you is to actually get on a bunch of them and try them out. Don't just

walk for a minute but for a little while and see what you really think and how

it reacts to you being on it.

Here are some websites that might help you.

treadmill help

I am going to buy a treadmill and I know a lot of you have one. What

have some of you found to be a good one.. I want it for walking, and

a lot of walking, not jogging, and if I do any jogging it would be

light and very little.

I am not looking into an expensive one either at this time...so good

value for less..

I need ideas on what size motor etc. I dont know anything about them,

and when in the stores the sales people give a lot of explainations

that I cant keep up with, and the others dont know anymore than I do..

Thanks....Kallie

If you are going to spend the bucks for a treadmill (and have the room for

one) consider seriously getting an elliptical cross trainer instead. I say

this because that machine is a better (fat burning wise) workout than the

treadmill but does not beat up your knees. Another alternative is the

Gazelle Freestyle on which you can run but again with no impact to the

knees. A plus with this machine is that you can also do resistance on upper

body.

www.tonylittle.com (for the gazelle freestyle).

I have a Gazelle freestyle and I totally love it. Had an elliptical cross

trainer also but unfortunately since you couldn't WALK in our tiny living

room with both of them there, we had to get rid of the elliptical ... I

really miss it and would get one in a heartbeat again if we had a bigger

place.
