AMA report on Tasers

You on a limb now that is novel.

The only problem I have is that I am sure there would be abuse and that

would end up in the paper. A few months back we had the incident here in Texas

where a small town Police Chief used his duty Tazer on his wife. granted

he could have used his Duty .45 (or whatever they carry in that town) and

the outcome would be much worse.

EMS has issues we can't get right in terms of protocols and SOP, SOG

development within our realm so adding this in some cases is akin tossing

lighter fluid on top of the fire after adding the gasoline.

At times EMS needs restraint itself.

I¹ll go out on a limb here (never been out on a limb). I think that

medical

directors should seriously consider Tasers for use in EMS for patients

whose

psychosis poses a danger to themselves or others (including EMTs). It is

probably safer than physical restraint and renders the patient docile while

neuroleptics or benzodiazepines (or both) are administered. This is

especially true in rural areas where law enforcement backup may be some

distance away.

Fire away....

When I first saw the commercials you mention I chuckled then I thought

about it from a Chief's viewpoint and said to myself " Did she say that? "

The inference and implied underlying meaning is there as well and while I

find that too to be amusing I am a warped 25+ year public safety person!

I had not considered bored medics but that too is valid.

Sadly one doe need to cater to the lowest common denominator

Could those taser darts possibly contain an adult dose of Droperidol? Now

that would be the perfect cocktail.
