Guest guest
Well, while I'm trying to sort out my hip problem (I have an appt with Dr. Kim in Ottawa on Monday, January 12th - my 3rd OS consult), I finally have a surgery date for toe 're-surfacing.' Ironically, my big toe problem makes me limp more than my hip and actually causes me more pain, too. I was lucky to get someone's cancelled appt on Dec 31st (I was originally scheduled for August/04) and saw Dr. Pepin in Windsor, Ontario who does a 'metallic hemi- arthroplasty' of the great toe. I'm scheduled for surgery on March 22nd. It's similar to hip re-surfacing in that a cobalt device is placed onto the end of one surface of the joint after the bone has been smoothed off and whatever cartilage is left has been removed. The other standard surgical procedures did not sound too appealing for me. The device was designed by an OS in Michigan and I could only find one doctor in Ontario who was using it. One down... only three more to go. Rainer
