Guest guest
Hi , sorry to hear that the shoes gave you/ so many problems! He probably feels very good right now without the shoes?! But hopefully you will not loose more of the correction with staying out of the shoes/cast for a whole week (actually it's 1 1/2 weeks, right?)! I think it's pretty common with " older " kids to do the tenotomy under anaestethic, eventhough my son was 5 1/2 month old when they did the first tenotomy just with local. But it was NOT good to see three adults holding your baby so he is not moving!! I hope that this tenotomy will help him and I'm sure you will be more successful with the -shoes (the shoes from Iowa)! So far I haven't heard of a case where somebody is describing blisters with those shoes. We are using them too, since Kody has an atypical clubfoot. I can not tell you the difference between these and the Markell shoes because I never saw the other ones. But I'm sure somebody else on this site will know! Guest guest
Then contact Dr. P with email and photos. s. Surgery for Well after those dreadful blisters, I simply took the shoes off on Friday morning, and refused to put them back on. I was in quite a dilemma, as I know the feet can relapse so quickly. I managed to get hold of Dr. F. and he said I could leave the shoes off, and come in on Tuesday, which I did. He came to the same conclusion I had come to: his feet are not fully corrected. He has very stiff feet, has had from the beginning, and the tenotomy did not give him full correction. Now he wants to do another tenotomy, but this time under anaesthetic. The reason he wants to do it this way is that he needs to make a slightly larger incision, so that he can see more clearly what is going on, and also he doesn't want to be crying and kicking while he is trying to work on him. We are scheduled to go in on Wednesday morning. He did say that he could recast the feet, instead of doing the heel release, but feels that has been through enough, as this has been so tough on him already. He has also ordered him different shoes - is ordering them from Iowa, although I have no idea what the shoes are, or how they differ from those that I already have. I am hoping that this is the best course of action for my little guy. Wish I could check with Dr. P. himself. and 06/24/04 bcc (and for this week, barefoot!) Guest guest
Hi , I just realized and Addisyn were born on the same day, interesting! Reading your posting was like reading our own story. We have gone through the exact same things. Addisyn had been out of the shoes for a week and a half because of the horrible pressure sores she got on her heels. We go back in tomorrow to put casts back on. After the whole shoe incident I called Dr. Ponseti and spoke with him about her feet after 6 castings a tenotomy, along with the failure of the shoes. He told me he thought it sounded like she has atypical cf. I sent him pictures of her progress through the last 2 months and he comfirmed his belief. Our specialist here doesn't know how to treat atypical cf w/o surgery so we are going out to Iowa to see Ponseti himself. We figure that we might as well get the care from the founder of the method rather than take the chance with someone who isn't sure of it and surgery isn't an option at this point! He did say she will probably need another tenotomy as well to allow more correction. Is there a chance may have atypical as well? You should email Dr P some pics of his feet and get some feedback from him, it can't hurt. Keep us posted on , I am very interested in how he progresses especially since he and Addisyn share the same birthday! Guest guest
Hello , My daughter Grace is out of her cast and was supposed to go into the shoes but with the advise of our Dr,(who is highly recommended and has practised the Ponseti method on over 1000 babies) we are going to wait a week as her calf was very badly bruised and she has a couple of pretty bad cracks in her skin. He told us to do the following excersise with her: hold her knee bent and facing due north with one hand, with the other hand, hold her foot due east by holding the bottom of the foot, hold this position for 10 min, he told us to do this at least 2 times a day until we go in to see him next Tuesday. You may want to try this with your little one. Good luck, I hope the next pair of shoes don't hurt his little feet! , Gilles and Grace (8/21/04) > > Well after those dreadful blisters, I simply took the shoes off on > > Friday morning, and refused to put them back on.
