Guest guest
It will be easier to show you than to tell you. the is the official flyer for the Markell shoes: http://www.markellshoe.com/ponsetiflyer.pdf And this is the official site for the shoes: http://www.mdorthopaedics.org (this site is still a bit incomplete). The shoes were designed by Dr Ponseti and a local craftsman. The first 2 pair were made for children with plantaris - which is an unusual version of clubfoot where the arch will not stay down. There are a variety of reasons they are prescribed - although anyone is free to buy them at this time. 1 - very tiny feet. Since they are custom made for each foot, Dr Ponseti uses these for the feet that are too small for the Markell shoes. 2 - sensitive skin/blisters. The occurrance of blisters in these shoes is very low as they are made of very soft materials. 3 - Unusual shaped/resistant to correction/atypical clubfeet that will not stay in the Markell shoes or for which the Markell shoes do not hold correction. This was the original reason they were made. With 3 straps they hold the abnormal foot more effectively than the Markell shoes and somehow they are able to improve correction in a resistant foot - something the Markell shoes cannot do. One big difference is the price. Markell shoes run $60 - $100 a pair - not sure how much the bars are - and the shoes are $350 + $35 shipping if you are outside of IC for a full brace. Because of that at this time most people are not using them if the Markell shoes work for them. Angel difference between Markell and Hi, Can anyone tell me the difference between the Markell and shoes and under what circumstances they are used. I think was using the Markell shoes. I'm just wondering since there have been so many discussions lately mentioing the two *brands*.
