Sometimes, if the symptoms worsen, I tend to think that it's like treating the

disease without enough medication and the symptoms worsen. If you started out

on 1/4 grain, that may be your problem.

What do you think it means when I increase my dose of armour by

15mgs, and then a week later my hair starts falling out and I get

more hypo symptoms? So far, I've raised my armour by 15 mgs

everyweek until right now, it's 45mgs. I have also added half a tab

(12.5 mcgs) of synthroid

Hi,

I have hair and eyebrow loss since 2-3 years. When I went to dermo, she used to say I have anemia. Now, since I'm diagnosed as celiac for 3 months and eating gf, I have my eyebrow coming again. Beeing celiac, anemia can be cause of hair & eyebrow loss.

Bahar

Hair lossHello, I have a friend who was diagnosed with celiac disease at the end of last year. Around the time she was diagnosed, she noticed that her hair had been thining out and falling out for some time. Once off of gluten, her hair situation started to get better. Just recently, she noticed that her hair was thining out and falling out again. Could this be related to celiac? It seems to me that once off of gluten, if her hair situation improved, then there should be no reason that it would worsen again with no gluten in her diet. Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Thanks, Isabel in CA

Adela,

I had my gastric bypass on 02/02/06, have lost 87 pounds and my hair

is still falling out. It started falling out around June. I now

pull it up and wear a curly hair piece around a pony tail. I'm

taking an herbal supplement for hair, skin and nails, biotin,

Bcomplex, etc, etc. My hair had already thinned before the surgery

so I am not happy. I met a girl who worked in the hospital who said

she lost " 1/4 " of her hair but that it all came back in. Does

anyone else out there have any experience with this and does it all

come back in? I am working out in a gym 3 X's a week and am happy

with the 86 pounds but the workouts are 2 hour workouts. I also do

an hour of Tai-Chi once a week. Don't you only have your window of

opportunity the first 18 months? Any feedback on this?

Thanks,

RNY 2/2/06

Hi Norma and welcome to the group. I had CMF but did not loose all of my hair.

It just thinned quite a bit. If I ever need chemo again I will shave my head as

it did not come back as nice as it was.

Hair Loss

Hi everyone! I've been " lurking " around here for a couple of months

and have learned so much!! I'm very uninformed on all this but this

newsletter has helped me to ask the right questions (I hope) of my onc.

I have a " trivial " (sp?) question tho that only people who have gone

through it can answer. I always thought that when you lose your hair

due to cancer, that it " all " came out, root & all. However, my hair

just broke off within about 1/8 of an inch from my scalp. So, after

cutting off the longer pieces left, with scissors, I have " fuzz " left.

My questions are, is this breaking off normal and will it grow back

from this state or do I need to completely shave it off before it will

really start growing back? I left the " fuzz " 'cause I thought I might

get a " head start " on my hair growing back!!! LOL I'm now on my weekly

Herceptin treatments. I know this is not as important as our health

but have not seen any postings concerning this and would appreciate any

information anyone can give me on this. I don't want to be still

waiting for hair 3-4 months down the road and nothing is happening.

Thanks so much and everyone hang in there!!! Norma

Hey Norma. I can't really remember if I had any fuzz or not. But now that you

bring it up I think my hair did break off or it felt like is was breaking off,

but I didn't have any strands it broke off at the root almost. I am trying to

recall but its been so long ago. I do remember when it finally started to come

out though. It just freaked me out when I ran my fingers through my hair and a

whole handful of it was in my hand. I remember how weird it felt too. I lost

every stitch of hair everywhere. and I do mean everywhere. There was no waxing

going on for me I loved that part. no shaving, no plucking. It was kinda nice.

It does all grow back as far as I know. It was 1990 when I had chemo my and

newborn daughter was about 6 to 8 months and when my hair started to grow in it

was like we were in a race to grow hair. She was a very bald baby. We both have

very long thick curly hair now. Good luck and hang in there it does get better

with time. Hey, Get a couple of really cute

wigs to ware. I had two and I would change them and sometimes just go without.

It really depended on my mood and the weather. If its cold the wigs can help

keep the warmth. Hang in there. theresa t.

norma (that was my mom's name) - I didn't shave my head - just got a

crew cut - it faded to just that fuzz, like you diescribe, during my

a/c. Now, with taxotere/herceptin (just two more left) it's starting

to come back (still ~1/8th of an inch)--but there's *more*...my son

says it feels like velvet, and it's not so " baby-bird " -like....

oh, and no question is stupid, or trivial :)...i can't wait till my

eyebrows come back...

I had my last chemo on 9/14 and I now have about a quarter of an inch. I came

to work today for the first time without wearing a hat. I know everyone is

different but it should not take long for your hair to start growing back after

chemo.

, I also had the Cytoxan & Adriamycin. Hair started coming out by the

handfuls two weeks after first treatment. I could only tolerate two of the

four treatments. I have circulation problems in my legs and the chemo

really compounded that, hurting so badly. I had been scheduled for Taxol

after the first 4 A/C but did not get it. Also, did not take radiation as

they suggested. I had a mastectomy on my left breast with only 1 node out

of 10 affected and the Onc. Dr said that I DID NOT have any cancer left. I

didn't feel radiation was needed, as there was no particular tumor to " zero

in on " . They were going to do the radiation because they said if tumor was

over " 5 " in size, that's what they do. Mine measured 5.1 !!! Therefore,

since I'm not taking any more chemo, he suggested Herceptin weekly for a

year and so far, after 4 treatments, no side effects. He's going to add

Femara pills in a couple of weeks, I believe

By the way, I'm a young 67 year old who is in good health otherwise. So

the " fuzz " I have on my head is gray (white) so it really doesn't show up -

I look really, really bald!!! I've been thinking about putting a rinse on

it so it will show some color!!! LOL I have a beautiful wig that the Am.

Cancer Soc gave me and I had it cut & styled and I also have several head

covers. Usually, just around the house, I run around without any cover.

Husband doesn't mind, thank goodness. He says he loves me, not my hair!!!

He's been a " gem " , helping me and cooking for me when I felt so bad. I know

I'm lucky there. ANYWAY, I can't wait until I get my hair back. I've

always worn it very short, so I'm not asking for much........! Sorry this

is so long, but felt talkative tonight. Ya'll take care of yourselves (By

the way, I'm in North Texas)

Hi Norma,

I think you're suppose to wait 6 months after the end of chemo to color

your hair - what there is of it :-)

I couldn't wait since my hair was coming in with lots of greys! I think

I started out with an organic rinse that didn't have amonia or any harsh

chemicals.

I'm glad you're doing well on the Herceptin. Definitely easier than AC.

take care,
