Guest guest
Thanks Jeanne, I am sure we can do this! and I have been much better already! I did not have any coffee after I got to work last night. I do carry my protein in a baggie and take along my stick blender. and I did have 2 shakes yesterday. Now my plan afterr I get some sleep is to pull out those old exercise videos. I really can't wait til winter is over however so I can get out again! Thank you for your encouragement! Phyllis -- Re: help Hi IrishEyes - Sounds like you are going through a rough spot. First of all I suggest you get a 2nd shake in while you are at work, and another after you get home. This will go a long way to improving your energy level. Is the coffee you drink regular coffee? That caffeine is probably doing a lot to encourage your appetite for the carbs. The more carbs you eat, the more you want them. Substitute one protein drink for one cup of coffee, and gradually cut back on the rest and drink water or Crystal Light instead. You know there are some really good ready to drink proteins out there called zero carb Isopure. They come in 20 oz. glass bottles. There are 5 fruit flavors. Each bottle has 40 grams of protein. I usually do a half bottle at a time. They are expensive, like $3.50 a bottle, but they might be easier for you to take to work. Otherwise put your protein powder in a baggie and get a shaker container or take a mini blender to work. You can do this. Stop making excuses against not doing it. How about picking up an exercise video or two? I bought the walk away the pounds series, but haven t started them yet. I hear they are really great. I need a kick in the butt to get exercising again, too. C'mon girl, we can do this! Take care. Guest guest
Protein calories don't work the same as food calories. Now, if you mix with milk or juice, of course, put those calories right onto your hips. But the protein powder has a job to do, places to go, organs & tissues to feed. No left overs, no loitering. No waste. Sugar, on the other hand, has ONLY waste. No job, nothing. Lips to hips, no digestion required. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. But I am going to try to have at least two per day...we will see...just can't make my mind get past the calorie part...ggg sherry in tn

Guest guest
Barbara, Eat some beef...believe me, it makes a difference. I am bipolar (there, I have never admitted it to anyone else). When I ate beef for 2-3 days, I slept better. You, as well as I, know that sleep deprivation is the worst thing for bipolar. I take klonopin at night and was still waking up. The beef made a difference. PLEASE TRY IT. It also helps with pains and aches. Good luck and best wishes, Irene help Hardly slept at all last night, second night in a row, fourth time this week. It's a combination of exhaustion and muscle aches, and the muscle rub I used helped but not enough. I've been taking extra-strength Tylenol but it doesn't solve the problem. I was out briefly this afternoon and discovered I really did need to hold onto walls. If I look (or stand) up at all fast I almost pass out. I can eat OK (made a really good pasta salad with chickpeas and vegetables earlier today; haven't eaten it yet but I couldn't resist a taste!) but I can barely hold my head up. If I can't get some decent sleep I'm going to be in real danger; sleep deprivation is very bad for people with bipolar. Anyone got any ideas? I'm really scared now. I called a friend and asked if she could pick me up early Monday morning and take me to the hospital for my scan...I even asked her to come upstairs to my apartment because I don't think I can make it downstairs without help at 7:30 AM that day! She said she'd be happy to. If anyone has my home phone in Philadelphia and wants to call me, feel free... Barbara

Guest guest
Barbara, As a addendum, it has been my experience that bipolar persons have a carbo problem. Pasta just aggravates it. Whenever I can not sleep or function, I eat beef and believe it or not, with meds, I do feel better and function. I notice on the LID that when I eat chicken, I don't sleep well; however, when I eat beef I do. I am not a doctor but I notice the difference. May be my peculiar body chemistry. Pasta lulls me to sleep only to wake me in the dead of night. Please be careful. And I wish you well. If no one is able to take you to the hospital, please call a cab. I have gone through your symptoms when I have not been hypo...
