Guest guest
Hello . We were very lucky in this area. I found my day care lady when I had my son who is now 2 1/2. She is licensed with the state/county. I love her!! Questions I asked: Why do you do this? What is your background (ie. my daycare provider used to be a nurse, big plus!)? How long do you plan to do day care? Interview during her day care hours. Understandably, they will not have a lot of time to chat with you, but if you go towards the end of the day, you can stay after all the kids have been picked up and then have your interview. Check the condition of all the kids there (ie. are their noses running, are their hands clean, etc.). What kind of food, if she provides food, is she preparing for the kids? What type of daily routine is there? Observe the cleanliness of the play area(s), bathroom and toys. I am not talking about a mess of toys in the middle of the room. We all know how our family room looks in the middle of the day/evening. But the condition of the toys. If they are all totally destroyed and beyond filthy that will give you an idea on how she runs the place. Try to meet the other parents. We all know there are good parents and parents that aren't our favorite on the list. Parents have strong influences on their children and can ultimately affect our own children. Make sure she is licensed with the county. And last but not least, use your best judgement and motherly instinct we all have. After saying all that, when came a long my day care lady loves kids soooooooo much she could care less about her condition (care less meaning it is not a bother). If anything she helped me not to worry so much and told me these were the cards dealt for her and that is how life goes. She even called me crying one day because had blisters so bad from the Markells and she wanted to take them off. Of course I let her. She treats her as the others and doesn't give her additional TLC over the others. She treats them all as equals and it helps for the other kids parents too. Yes there maybe a little extra time spent dealing with certain DBB issues but overall she is one of the others. That is another reason I love her so much. It is persons like her that love what they do and I am glad!!! It makes going to work easier for me. Sorry to ramble on and on but this is a huge subject to me. I hope this helps. Guest guest
I am looking for childcare in Wentzville, MO. It is part of the greater St. Louis area. We have always had my daughter in a childcare center but I'm starting to think that a home daycare might be best now. Thanks, > Hello! What city/state are you going to be looking for childcare in? Guest guest
, I went back to work when Rose was almost 3 months old and still in a cast. I had a home day care at the time and discussed it with her. She was absolutely comfortable with it and said that her sister had worn one when she was a child so she was not afraid of the brace. I gave them instructions to call me if she slipped her shoes and I would come put them back on. However, they just put the shoes back on themselves and were totally comfortable with her and the brace. She is now in a " Children's Center " and although I think it is perfect for an active 17 month old, I don't think it would have been the best choice for Rose in the FAB. At any rate, just use your own judgement and trust your instincts. The FAB is just one thing, and there are a million things the daycare will do for your child. Does anyone have any suggestions on what characteristics to look for when choosing a childcare provider who can properly take care of my son when he is wearing the brace? What kind of questions would you ask if you were in my place? Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Guest guest
If there were some chronic, serious health issue at stake or some type of learning disability, or even some gross motor disability, I could understand your concern, but as far as wearing the DBB in day care, I'm not sure why you think it would be a problem to have your child in the same day care setting she was in previously, provided you were happy with their service at that time. What are your concerns? s. childcare for baby in FAB > > > > > > Hi all, > > Just looking for some advice. Guest guest
, Zach went to day care when he was 9 weeks old and was in the DBB 23/7. When interviewing day cares, we asked the usual questions, but in addition to those questions we really looked at their body language and how they reacted intially to us bringing out the clubfoot and the bar. We then showed them the bar, and demonstrated for them how it went on. Some barely paid attention (we knew they were a no go) while others seemed genuinely interested. The day care provider we went with was SO awesome with Zachary and understood the importance of diligence with The Bar. To further drive home the importance of the bar (although in my heart I felt they understood), I typed up " our story " (traveling to Iowa City, casting, tenotomy, etc.) on cute paper, and included a picture of Zachary's foot at birth, and another of his foot currently. Along with our story, I wrote about the importance of being diligent - and also went on to say if one isn't dedicated to putting The Bar on consistently, our child may never walk (okay, so that's not entirely true, as we would be dealing with a relapse that can be corrected, but I felt " scare tactics " were in order). Our day care provider placed " Zach's Story " over Zach's cubby - and the parents were genuinely interested and asked lots of questions (we added at the end of our story, to ask as many questions as they want, we encourage that) and it was a constant visual reminder for the day care provider(s). Also, I made up a form on the computer and sent it in with Zach. It was a grid that had: Date/Time/Provider - each day they wrote in the date, time bar was put on, and who did it. I know they could easily " fill it in " but not do it - this is where trust and faith in the person you have chosen comes in. One day, when Zach's bar time was down to 14 hours, I had forgotten to send in The Bar with him. The day care actually called me at work - this was such a welcome phone call, as it told me (what I already really knew) that they really were dedicated and diligent. Before your child goes to day care, I would have each staff member practice putting the bar off and on several times. This was helpful for us. Good luck - it's hard not to worry. You're putting a lot of trust in somebody, I completely understand your concern. Holly Zachary 7/27/02 Right Clubfoot Treated by Dr. Ponseti DBB Nights Only > Hi all, > Just looking for some advice. Guest guest
My daughter is not the one with clubfoot, (sorry I guess this was all explained in the original post of this thread) we're expecting a little boy who has been diagnosed w/ clubfoot. I'm just concerned that the daycare my daughter goes to now (which is where he would go as well), while they are capable and a pretty good center for a child with no difficulties, will not be able to handle the responsibility of putting the DBB on the baby correctly, dealing with any problems he may have with the DBB, and communicating with me if there are issues. Thanks for your input. > > Hello! What city/state are you going to be looking for childcare in? Guest guest
Holly, Thanks for your advice, this is great. I like all your ideas, I think that the chart you made up sound really helpful because that's one of the main things I worry about. I will be the one dropping the baby off at daycare in the a.m. but my husband picks up in the afternoon and I'm always asking him now, did you ask the teacher about this..., did they say anything about that... While I know he will be more dilligent with asking questions with the baby I am worried about a lack of communication if I am not careful. Thanks again. > > Hi all, > > Just looking for some advice. Guest guest
My son goes to childcare and has done from 6 months. The only thing they had to do was to take his shoes off at the specified time. They don't really need to put them on and take them off etc. Connor wore his shoes 23/7 for 3 months then went 16/18 hours until he walked. He is now 17 months and wears them 12/14 hours. I take them off now before he even goes to childcare. He gets them put on by myself at 7pm so I can remove them at 8.30am. You can really work it round yourself....... When they had to take the shoes off that was fine. Anyone can take them off. I left instructions of what to do if they came loose but it never happened and they were ok with if it had. I wrote everything down with angles and what hole it was on the strap just in case There was no other children there with 'difficulties' but they really were fine and no-one seemed to be bothered at all by his shoes... most people thought he had clicky hips. Guest guest
Hi, We also had absolutely no problems with the FAB and daycare. I explained the FAB ahead of time and left insructions to call me if the shoes came off and I would come put them back on (I work about 3 minutes away). But it was never an issue. The lady that ran my daycare had a sister who wore an FAB as a child and was not the least scared of it. Even the first week or two when Rose was pulling out of the DBB all the time, They would just lace her back in. The three months were over before we knew it and I have dealt with it since then. Rose is now 17 1/2 months old and wears them 10-12. We call them her " nigh nigh " shoes and she totally knows the difference between them and her daytime shoes. The only time she cries about them is when she dosn't want to go to bed and she knows that when the shoes go on, it is bedtime. If you have a competent daycare, they should be able to deal with this. I was much more concerned about how many bottles my baby was getting a day and whether or not they were giving her a pacifier when I didn't want her to have one. The FAB is like a diaper, the baby has to wear it all the time. They understood this and dealt with it.
