Guest guest
Dear all my son is 20 months old and has a right clubfoot. We live in Switzerland, we started first with the conservative method, but switched fortunately to Ponseti when was 8 months old. He had serie of Ponseti casts and a release at 91/2 months. He is in his DBB boots for the nights since then and doing fine. But he has still intoing toes, first also on the left foot, but this one has nearly straightened out. He is walking and running and managing also " climbing " hills without an obvious problem. But the way he is holding his feet does still disturb me. At the last checkup a few days ago the doctor said that the foot is functioning very well (I agree), the intoing is sometimes watched with children who were treated later with Ponseti and it will either go away or can be handled later (I dont know) and that he is still rolling a bit on the lateral side (I can see that as well). Also if is standing you can see that his weight is on his left healthy side. The doctor suggested to wait another three months, if nothing changes or it gets worse, another casts serie is suggested. He also mentioned that a tendon transfer might be needed when is 3 years old. Is here somebody who has experiences with that? I would appriciate any comment or recommendation! Best wishes andra and , 20 months old, right cf
Guest guest
andra, It is not typical of a child treated with the Ponseti method and still in the FAB/DBB to have intoeing. With the final Ponseti method casts and the FAB/DBB set at 70 degrees external rotation, it is more typcial that the childs feet would be " out-toeing " . Also, the foot should not be rolling onto the lateral side. I would encourage you to e-mail Dr. Ponseti with some photo's and ask him for his advise. He will get right back to you and will be able to tell you if there is a need to be doing something. and (3-17-99) > Dear all > my son is 20 months old and has a right clubfoot.
