Guest guest
Hi, Our baby Jasper was cast every 5 days because he was a low birth weight baby, therefore grew much faster than normal babies - he was born at 2kg (4.4pounds) and put on 400g/ week (14.2oz) this is about two to three times more than a regualar growth rate. The casts were getting very tight and uncomfortable by the time day 5 came around. He has slowed down to a normal rate now (we weigh him tomorrow after his four week casts come off, and they are really tight now but toes still look good) Apparently you can cast with even shorter intervals but the degree of manipulation will not be as severe from cast to cast to allow the foot to adjust, this is similar to what happens if one foot corrects before the other, that foot is kept in a cast which doesn't change until the other foot catches up. Tamsin > Her premature daughter is being casted more quickly than the standard > Ponseti method recommendation. Her first cast was on Tuesday, the 2nd > on Friday (the 4th day). Dr Ponseti did an accelerated treatment for us > because we were from out of town and he changed the casts every 5th day > (Monday, Friday, Wednesday), but most other doctors seem to change casts > weekly. Guest guest
Tamsin, That's an interesting point about the growth rate, I had never really thought about it before. She's being treated by a Ponseti qualified doctor, so I would think that he knows what's best for her individual case. It sounds like you're about to start with the FAB. Congratulations! I remember how exciting it was for us to finally be free of casts. and 24.1.03, bilateral cf www.clubfoot.co.za
