Guest guest
Pat- What a great idea with the 1 point per spoonful! When your leader said spoonful, did she mean eating spoon or serving spoon? Marie _____ From: Sent: Friday, July 02, 2004 10:42 AM To: Serious-Weight-Watchers Subject: Re: Re: Question of the day 7/2 Writing everything down that I eat works for me, too, Anne. I am facing 2 days this weekend, Saturday at my Nephews house and a big family reunion, and Sunday at my daughters house for a family Fourth of July celebration. Both days will be crammed with food. My lecturer said that I can have a spoonful of several something's that I want, and count each spoonful as a point. She said you would be surprised at how many people do this at big gatherings, and are grateful when someone starts the spoonful only servings, rather than full servings. Also, she said, portion control is everything in this game of losing weight. She said use my FP's to help on both days. So I have not used any FP " s since WI day, which was Wednesday. And only a few of my AP points. 2 other people who are going Saturday are on WW also, and like me, are taking foods that are low in points. It's also a birthday celebration, as well as a family reunion, so, I am planning to have a taste of the ca ke, and hope I will be strong. They live out in the country, so hope I can talk someone in to taking a walk after dinner, and before fireworks. I am taking my pedometer. This will be the first BIG social event back to back that I have attended since I started WW in March. Wish me luck. Others were smaller, and I was more in control. So, Anne, maybe you can have that piece of cake...just a spoonful and 1 point. I am going to try it. Congratulations on your loss. Keep up the good work. Pat from Kansas City Re: Question of the day 7/2 Hi everyone, What works for me is also writing everything down that I eat and being accountable for it. Also pre-planning my meals. My biggest stumbling block are social events. I tend to let my guard down and get caught up seeing people eating food all around me. I think.... " Why can't I have a pice of cake too? Guest guest
Hi Marie; Welcome. This is a good group. I am new here also. Everyone has been so helpful. I am sorry I wasn't more specific about the size of the spoon...it sure does make a difference. I will quote her for you. She said " 2 Tablespoons of anything except meat, cheese, or dessert is one point...or one tablespoon of meat, cheese or dessert will be one point. " she said it really balances out about that way, almost always. So I figure if I do this, and count everything, other regular servings of food, too, that maybe I will make it through this rather tough weekend, and maybe have a loss instead of a gain. Good luck to you and your husband. My husband is on WW with me, also, but does not go to the meetings. He has been very, very supportive, and has lost weight also. I have lost 21 1/2 pounds since March 1st. You both will be such good parents to your young son. He will start out knowing the right way to eat. This past WI day, my lecturer, said for us all to be very careful of Aspartame sweeteners in our foods and drink. She said that Splenda is so much better. I use Splenda also, and find it much more to my liking. Aspartame, they now find, may be responsible for short term memory loss. This was the first I had heard of this. Hope someone else can respond to this. Back a few years ago, I had a very bad allergic reaction to a cola drink sweetened with Aspartame. It was a very hot day, and I had been out mowing the yard. I came in and I chugged a 16 ounce bottle of Coke sweetened with Aspartame, and almost instantly my throat closed up. My little daughters quick reaction saved me. My Doctor had said at that time, that he had quite a few patients allergic to Aspartame, and for me to avoid it. He didn't have to tell me twice. Can you imagine what the diet drink industry would do, if everyone found this to be true, and everyone stopped drinking diet drinks sweetened with Aspartame. Very bad for business. Hopefully they would switch to Splenda. I am wondering if this is true, why isn't it out there on the news...or did I just miss it. I avoid Aspartame for my own reasons, but did not know it causes short term memory loss as well.. Guest guest
, thanks for this helpful guide... great idea!!!! re: aspartame, there is a movie out on it now detailing the dangers which are much greater than memory loss. And it (and diet pops in general) might even interfer with weight loss (one theory is that insulin is produced when you have something sweet tasting in the mouth - the higher levels of insulin tend to interfere with weight loss. I've now heard several stories of folks who gave up diet pop and lost weight just due to that and there's been some news items on this as well). Guest guest
Sue; Thanks for the web site. I had no idea so many Doctors were against aspartame. I have not read all the info, but wanted to respond, and thank you for it. It is well worth reading, and definitely gives one cause for pause. I am going to e-mail it to my daughter, who has more than a few each day...trying to lose weight, also.I sure urge everyone to take a moment and look at this web site that Sue sent. It's pretty important stuff. Pat from Kansas City Re: Re: Pat/Question of the day 7/2 > Hi Marie; Welcome. This is a good group. I am new here also.
