Guest guest
I got a lot of those " You child abuser! " looks too. Don't they realize if I'd broken my own baby's legs he wouldn't be in my custody anymore!?! geesh. s. Re: what do you think? Tiffani, Regarding what you said about what other people think when they see the casts... Unbelievably enough, I started out completely unashamed of Evan's casts and made no effort to cover them up or anything. However, so many people stared at him in stores and then turned to GLARE at me, that I started draping a blanket across his legs--in August! I think they thought I had dropped him, or let him fall, or done some other stupid thing. At first I wanted to say " no no no you don't understand. " Then I got mad and would glare back at people. Then I decided just to cover him up until those weeks went by. And they went so quickly!!! So be prepared and take heart. Guest guest
Tiff, you still have an uphill road to climb after the casting because if the DBB causes issues (not to mention it's just inconvienient) your fiance may still want to try a surgical quick-fix. Just stick to your guns! Best of luck! s. Re: what do you think? Thank you very much for responding! I was thinking along the same lines as you are with the idea of it not being much good. I did email Dr. Noonan to see what his thoughts were about that also. I also asked if he would come to the hospital shortly after birth to do the casting asap. I would rather get her first cast on and adjust to her with it on instead of adjusting without it and then adjusting all over again. EH, either way I get my baby Only reason I said we were giving this a " try " is for my fiance's sake. He is still a bit pessimistic about this method even though I have " sold " him on the idea. He agrees we should " try " the non- invasive route first and then if that's doesn't work (which I'm confident it will) we will go another route. I told him I just couldn't live with myself as a mother and tell my child later that she had surgery just because I couldn't handle the casts or the brace. How would that make me feel if I didn't at least " try? " So we're " trying " it out. I'm really excited about pretty shoes! I was really worried at first but then the more I thought about it... our baby will be a winter baby. If we go out at all in the first 3 months she will be covered up because it will be cold. Many people won't even know she has CF even though I don't care if they do know. Not like I'm going to introduce her and say " this is my daughter, she has club foot. " Just not going to happen lol. Again thanks for your advice and I'll be sure to check in again when I get a reply from Dr. Noonan. I'm going to set up a consult with him pretty soon so we can learn more about casting and the process before hand. Tiffani > >I went to the doctor today for a checkup on my pregnancy. Guest guest
I agree. I never hid Kaitlin's cast, but I grew very tired of saying, " she didn't break her leg, she has clubfoot. " It seems like everyone knows someone or was someone who was " pigeon-toed " as they always seem to put it. Even with her brace, I always hear a story about somebody's somebody who was " pigeon-toed " too. Or how the doctor said that they should wear the same kind of shoes and they didn't but their feet are fine and Kaitlin's feet will be too....Gimme a break- not to be mean or anything but if they only knew how many times I have had the same conversation with another stranger already that day then they might be quiet and let us be. Guest guest
LOL! OK, I stand corrected because I certainly cannot argue that!!! haha It's so true how sick you get of hearing the same old thing over and over. Everyone knows someone who had club feet or pigeon toes or grew up with a boy who wore metal braces up his legs.......My favorite was when I went out with our new pair of Sandals and a woman says, " I wore a pair exactly like that when I was a baby. " Uh excuse me? These aren't even patented yet! haha s. if they only knew how many times I have had the same conversation with another stranger already that day then they might be quiet and let us be. Guest guest
That is TOO funny about the mitchell shoes! You mentioned that your new mitchell shoes were slightly different...could you elaborate? Freeman
Guest guest
You mentioned that your new mitchell shoes were slightly different...could you elaborate? Freeman Yes, he has designed the heel section of the boot to go up higher on the back of the leg - more of a " high top " shoe than it was previously. I think that is about the only real " structural " change regarding how the shoe fits the foot, although the way he put the boot together is slightly different, more of a cosmetic change than anything, I'd say. It doesn't make them look any better or worse, I just notice they'v been assembled differently. The straps are wider than they were on my first pair and he's changed his buckles. Previously the little metal buckles were the type that had " rollers " , which makes it easier to slip the strap through. With the wider straps and no rollers on the buckle they are a bit harder to fasten. Perhaps once the leather breaks-in this will be easier. On the bottom of the shoe he has added " traction " , which is just his MD logo in raised letters all over the bottom of the shoe and it looks really cute but dang of you get kicked or stepped on by that it hurts! LOL! One part I am struggling with is that with the new higher-top design there is a lot more leather to deal with (as it wraps aroudn the leg above the ankle)......parts that need careful application so they don't bulk up under the straps. Again, I think with wear this will soften up and be less of an issue but last night I had a booger of a time getting one of his shoes on. This morning when I removed the shoes I noticed his skin across the top of his foot was a little pink but nothing alarming - I do believe as the shoe softens up these things won't be problems any more. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. We got the 's a few weeks ago. We must have the new design also. I never saw the old type and I wasn't sure if he had redesigned them since we got them. They are like high tops..I agree with the part about the leather bunching up. I can never get the tongue to the top strap to lay flat unless it is over the middle buckle and I don't think that is where it belongs. Can you get it under the middle buckle without buckling the middle buckle second? (does that question make sense?) The tread is painful...kinda like getting kicked with little cleets. I haven't had difficulty with the buckles, but maybe it is because Kaitlin has sucked on the leather straps so much they are hard on the ends and easier to pull through. I know that sounds silly, but I can't figure out how to get her to stop sucking on the darn things. Her shoes are a bit big and the straps dangle a few inches..(we had to add extra holes if that tells you anything) so she puts her feet up and bats at the straps or sucks on them. Any suggestions for that one? Freeman
