that's awesome!!! will 'put weight on her feet' when in her shoes

but not in bare feet yet.

Bearing weight

I was just playing with and letting him jump on the floor when

he stopped and just stood there, legs straight and bearing weight on his

feet! He just turned 4-months on July 25th. His feet were flat on the

floor, although his one foot tips toward the inside a bit at times, but

that's from the muscle imbalance and should hopefully fix itself when he

starts walking. I was just soooo happy to see him bear weight on his feet

and to see that they were flat on the floor! I wasn't expecting that to

happen for a while yet. Just wanted to share!

I was wondering the same thing... when will bear weight on his feet. I see

all of my friends kids doing it, and is almost 6 months now and he curls

his legs up every time I put them towards a flat surface. I guess it has a lot

to do with his feet either being in casts or shoes his whole life- he isn't used

to it.

That's great , Go ! It only gets better from there!

Zoe is a month older than and when I hold her

so she is bearing weight on her feet she has started to put

feet forward without my helping her (you know twisting her a bit to

make the foot go forward). Unbelievable to think where we were

5 months ago and not knowing what was going to happen!

I find this an interesting observation - do a lot of the cf babies object/resist

bearing weight on bare feet? I can't really speculate on cuz he wore

casts for 6 months, starting at 4 days old, but with Everett - that boy has

wanted on his feet since day one.

I was surprised when he did this because he used to do the same thing...curl

his legs up. He's been in his shoes since he was about 5 weeks old. I have

a book called What to Expect the First Year, and according to it, they don't

list that they should be bearing weight until the end of the eighth month,

so I wouldn't worry about it yet. Bearing weight is listed under four

months as may even possibly be able to..., so is just early on

that one. My mother told me that I was walking unassisted when I was nine

months old, and so was my brother. I wonder if it's hereditary to some

extent and maybe will walk early too, since I did. I know

they've said that getting that first tooth can be hereditary and if the

parents got it early, the child probably will too. Maybe the bearing weight

and walking work the same way?

likes to jump up and down when I hold him up, so his legs get A

LOT of exercise! LOL Maybe that helped with the bearing weight too.

My boys were weight bearers early on - like 1-2w and LOVED to stand,

always. Darbi was a little later, 5w of casts seemed to slow her down in

that area but she got right on it once the cast was off, maybe a little

before. And has been standing ever since. I just seem to make em wanting

to stand!

I know lots of babies don't do this even without casts - I think it's more

normal for it to happen later than sooner. People are always amazed that

mine have such strong legs and prefer standing on my lap to sitting when

they're infants. They're just weird and all the other kids are normal lol

I think it just depends on the baby. didn't really care about

being on his feet early on, but after he was in the shoes and about 2 months

old or so, he started liking being on his feet so he could bounce. His feet

stayed on the ground, but he bounced....liked to exercise those leg muscles,

I guess. He just loved doing it and always wanted to bounce, in the DBB and

out of it. When I tried putting him on his feet without the shoes and bar

though, he did the same thing...curled his legs. His bearing weight just

came right out of the blue, because I had read in the book I have that it

was possible for them to do this at this age, but it wasn't expected until

they were 8 months old. I walked when I was 9 months old, and so did my

brother, so maybe it's slightly hereditary too?

I would think the casts would affect it since they can't really straighten

their legs much with them, and therefore can't really exercise the leg

muscles.
