Hi,

A uterine ablation is not a good treatment to control heavy bleeding from

fibroids. A UAE only works on certain fibroids, check it out. Find a doc (try a

RE) who knows the word M Y O M E C T O M Y, say it slow for them. Make sure

they do lots of them and have one if this is your choice.

I was told hyst by 3 docs. They didn't have the skills for a myo. I wasn't told

about other options either. UAE wasn't a option for me. I found a RE in another

state and had a myo. NO MORE FIBROID AND HEAVY BLEEDING!

This is a option for you. Don't give in or give up. Do the treatment YOU want.

The other major concern is that three years ago I had a blood clot in each

lung at the same time. He told me this means that I cannot take any

hormones and at least keeping my ovaries would be a way for me to get some

hormones.

He suggested some alternatives. A uterine ablation procedure to remove the

endometrial lining and/or a UAE; however, he said that in 20% of cases the

UAE does not work and they end up having to do surgery anyway and I would

also be left with the fibroids dying inside me.

I thought that ablation could be used as a treatment to control heavy

bleeding from some types of fibroids? Is this not true? I know some

women here have had this treatment and it has worked.

My heavy bleeding was primarily caused by a 3cm submucousal fibroid

which I had removed by resection in January of '02. While my

bleeding improved dramatically I still had one somewhat heavy day

per month, so I decided to have an ablation in June of last year.

My results have been very good, but I think that is only because the

fibroid was removed first.
