Guest guest
, Both of my sons have had this within the past 6 months. They had it at different times (by a couple of months). My older son, Josh, had a big problem with the sores in his mouth. He had about 15 in his mouth at one time. He could hardly eat anything. It was awful for him. only had like one in his mouth and about 3 on his feet. He had them all over his hands. They did not seem to bother him at all (except the one in his mouth). I was worried that the ones on his feet would be bothered by his shoes, but they weren't. Unless these look really bad on his feet the only reason I would think they would delay would be bringing him into the office if he were contagious (other small kids there). But what I am thinking is that once they are broken out they are no longer contagious (I think that is what the ped told us). Hope you hear something soon and this isn't too much of a problem for Tyler. Be sure and explain to Dr. Dobbs how bad they are or aren't on his feet. Because I think this virus can be very different from person to person. Guest guest
I got a call this morning and Dr. Dobbs said that if they don't look infected that I could go ahead and bring him and he could cast if Tyler co-operates. I feel so much better. Also Dr. Dobbs is a very nice doc from what I heard on the phone! Guest guest
Pam - HF&M is contagious for MONTHS. It is excreted in the feces for a very long time. This is why it's very important for kids to wash their hands after using the bathroom. We had an experience similar to yours last summer. The kids next door had it and suddenly all three of mine did too. Couldn't eat anything except popsicles for days (I think they actually would take HF&M again if it meant popsicles and ice cream for 5 days - ack!). But Darbi - the baby, was relatively unaffected as far as misery. She only got a couple minor sores on her feet and I only had her shoes off one night as a result and I doubt I needed to do even that. I was worried I'd have to get her a cast for the duration based on what the boys had but it was not nearly as severe not even close. I have heard the younger ones get it worse - but my middle child was the one who had it the worst and youngest the least. Go figure. For , The sores on the boys hands and feet didn't really seem to bother them. It was the ones in their mouths that hurt. So perhaps if it's kind of mild and Tyler is not acting like his sores on the feet hurt/itch a cast won't be much of a problem (I forget why you're going in - but it sounds like " doing something " with his feet means a cast of some kind). I wouldn't worry about it being contagious unless he's going to be playing with other babies (and he's kind of young for that right). Just make sure *you* wash your hands after diaper changes so you don't spread it unintentionally. HF&M sucks, I'm sorry Tyler is sick with it :~{ Hope he feels better soon!
