Guest guest
Hi, Seema, For all of you who have read our story a thousand times just skip onto the next post...I feel like a broken record but we were so close to treating a supposed relapse incorrectly that I feel compelled to tell everyone who might be in the same situation. My son Evan was a little over three when we first started noticing in- toeing again but it was so confusing...sometimes worse than others , worse when he was tired etc. and his foot was still flexible and he had great ability to pull it up and out. When he sat with feet stretched out in front the toes were completely pointing in. We took him to our dr. who started talking about ATTT surgery. We sent pictures to Dr. P. who suggested re-casting and back into the brace before going to ATTT--although, he prefaced this with the fact that he would really need to feel the feet to be sure. We finally requested a second opinion from Dr. Mosca who is in the same clinic as our dr. but really is respected in the cf circles. He took just a few minutes of watching Evan run and walk before he said that the feet remain fully corrected. " Look up, look up " he said and pointed out that his entire leg twists in with each step. Then with further examination, he diagnosed Evan with femoral torsion--there are lots of great sites with good info on this--better than I can describe here. Dr. Mosca is currently doing a study on this that is showing that literally ALL cf kids have some degree of this. In only 1/10th of 1% of kids does it not resolve on its own by age 8-10. In fact, in 20 years, Dr. M. has never seen a case that didn't resolve. Obviously we were SO relieved to hear this. Our own doctor was in complete agreement with Dr. Mosca when it was pointed out--he admitted he just missed it. We continue to watch those little feet like crazy, but they don't get any worse and remain flexible--he just looks pigeon toed. It makes my hair stand up on end to think we were ready to re-cast that very day if need be and it wouldn't have helped. Then we would have done the ATTT surgery and it wouldn't have helped either. It drives me crazy that there is literally no info. on this in the cf literature. I can't wait until Dr. Mosca gets his study finished and published. In the meantime, I repeat our story over and over and urge people to rule out femoral torsion or tibial torsion before jumping to the relapse conclusion. Forgive my looooooong post.... and Evan (8-17-00 bcf) > Hi Everyone! > > We haven't posted in ages. Zevi is doing really well except that we > noticed he is " toing in " on the right foot. Guest guest
Tonya, If you edit your membership, you can set up how you want to see messages. I have it set for no e-mail and then just look at messages on the web site which keeps your e-mail inbox free for other things. > > , > I am going on vacation for two weeks and am worried that my email account will get too full since I can't check it each day.
