Guest guest
, We are just getting ready to head back to Iowa on Thursday to have some casts done to see if Becky is going to need the ATTT or not. She is also bilateral and it is looking like her right foot is giving her the most trouble too. What a coincidence!!! LOL Will you be in Iowa to get the ATTT done? ====================================================================== > > Hi all! Guest guest
It seems like a lot of children are suffering a relapse lately - any ideas why the sudden increase? Makes me nervous about my own baby. s. Re: Back with Questions.... Guest guest
I would imagine it's more apparent because there's more of us online here as well as more children receiving this kind of treatment than there was even a few years back. I can't imagine that there's actually more... other than the apparent reasons such as docs letting children out too early or not bracing long enough (hours) indicating a failure in the treatment process rather than bunk feet. Those feet treated in Iowa would seem to be the ones that don't relapse but even Dr. P. has experienced that 5% that need further treatment, or else it wouldn't be in the literature. So it stands to reason that if 100 babies a year were treated in 1999 and 5 of them needed further treatment or relapsed that the 1000 that are being treated now would result in about 50 who relapsed or needed further treatment. (I know those numbers are wrong - I was just using them as an example) Then again... many of those parents who are going back to Iowa were some of the original members of this list. So it stands to reason that we'd find out about them here whereas without this list, none of us would have the first idea what was going on with children from around the world. Guest guest
I wouldn't include Dylan with the typical relapse rate either as we didn't start with a Ponseti doc until 14 months. Dylan also require a posterior release since we started so late with the method and were unable to get a complete correction with casting and a tenotomy. Theresa > > > Hi all! Guest guest
No, we won't. :-( I'm originally from Iowa and we just spent a couple weeks there on vacation. When I first decided I wanted to visit Dr Ponseti, it was because I wanted to meet him. But then, in talking to my doctor, he thought it would be the perfect time because we had tried and tried with Emma's right foot (the stubborn one) and at this point, it was time to " call in the Master " as Dr calls him! :-) I'm really gland we took Emma and I'm glad that her (hopefully) last 2 sets of casts were 'true' Ponseti casts by the Master, himself! The next time we are in Iowa, I may make an appointment to let him know how she is doing, like a follow-up or something. I want to keep him informed on her " dimples " in her feet. I don't know if you read that post before, but she has these dimples in her feet that he said he hadn't ever seen before. I love that man! He cupped Emma's face with his hands and said " This child is an angel. " I'm sure he says that to alot of his babies, but he was absolutely wonderful with her. It was incredible! Let me know about the tendon transfer and he he recommends it for your daughter! www.pediatric-othopedic-foundation.org > > > Hi all! Guest guest
In Emma's case, she was severe bilateral. The right foot was much worse than the left and that is why we have never really been able to get it to where it needs to be very easily. www.pediatric-orthopedic-foundation.org > > > Hi all!
