Guest guest Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Welcome ! Congrads on the 40 you have lost already! What have you been doing? Are you exercising? Drinking enough water? Eating breakfast? Don't let the plateau discourage you. Just see what you can change or up a notch. I'm Gena BTW. At my heaviest I was 284, I am 5'3. Now I'm 215. I suggest going back and reading some old posts. There is great info there. May be something will help give you an idea or two. I hope to hear more from you. Gena > Just wanted to say hi! Guest guest Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 > MY DOCTOR TOLD ME IN JULY THAT I WILL MOST LIKELY NEVER GO INTO REMISSION Hi, ! Thank you for sharing your difficult and all too familiar story with us. I'm sure that many people in this group will agree that we've been told some unbelieveable and discouraging stories from doctors. I've been diagnosed for about a year or so and am currently in sort of a remissive state, or at least in some period where this disease is manageable and the pain is tolerable. I'm a candidate for SCS, but I'm holding off until I feel that it's absolutely necessary. My RSD affects my right leg, from my hip to my toes. I'm ambulatory and working, so I'm blessed. I went from a huge daily dose of Neurontin, Elavil and Vicodin. Now, I take only Cymbalta and occasional Vicodin. I've had dozens of blocks, some helpful and some not. Anyhow, remember that most doctors try their best, but RSD is a non-standard affliction at best, it manifests itself differently in each individual. Consequently, a doctor can easily find her or himself telling a patient something and having to eat their words later. Please don't get too discouraged. Again, thank you for your forthrightness in your sharing. Most people in this group encourage others to say whatever they need to say without fear of criticism or censorship. If you ever find that this isn't the case, you're welcome to dump on me personally. You can say whatever the hell you want to me. Peace, love and pain relief! Cliff Quote

Guest guest Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Hi - welcome! I'm Barbara, mom to Tom, 13 with a severe/profound hearing loss and Sam, 11, with a profound hearing loss. Tom was recently implanted (Nov. 2005) and also wears one hearing aid; Sam wears two hearing aids but will be getting his implant next month. We live in New Hampshire. Both my boys are good readers and love to read. I always read to them when they were little. Books that were good (and fun) that they liked were the Amelia Bedelia books. They're really silly but do a great job with idioms - so as we read, we'd talk about the play on words and what it meant. When they were younger, we put labels on everything in the house. I'd just write the word on an index card and tape it to the item - so there was a card " couch " on the couch, " door " on each door, etc. I think that helped them associate words with the actual items. If your child watches television, turning the captions on helps a lot - again, the association with words and meanings. We love the library and visit a bunch - I read a lot too which I think helps when my boys see ME reading and enjoying it. I'd say also that 8 years old is probably second or third grade? For both my boys, I noticed a big difference between second and third grades. In second grade and lower, kids really are learning to read but in third grade, they start reading to learn so there's a fluency that's expected by then. If your son is having problems, and you live in the U.S., there are federally funded reading programs that might help. If your son receives speech/language services, you might mention your concerns to them as well. I'm sure others will have excellent suggestions. Where does your family live? Welcome - I'm glad you found us! Barbara Mohit Bhatt wrote: > I am new to this group and have a hearing impaired 8 yrs. old son. Guest guest Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Hi there, I've seen many posts in the past few days about helping our kids learn to read so I won't repeat those. We have some problems with my daughter comprehending what she is reading. Some of the things that I've done is while I'm reading books to her, I'll stop after a few sentences and ask her what is going on or who is doing what. If it's a book that we've read before then I might wait until the end of the page. When we are finished reading the book then I ask her who was in the story and what happened. I also do it while we are watching TV programs together. These little things seem to help, now we just have to get her to pay attention. Can somebody give some tips how to make him able to read and comprehend on his own. Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not. Guest guest Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Hi Tis, What do you think is causing the lowered cholesterol — yours looks great now—just need to up your HDL, healthy cholesterol a bit! Mine needs a bit more help — also losing 7 lbs is excellent — what was the biggest change you made since the lower weight and cholesterol – I am eager to know -- is it the “thyroid helper” and if so, what is that? Thanks! Sue In my previous post I listed the wrong web address for my labs. I've just had new blood tests done and I am posting them on my site; http://www.tisonlyme.com/routinehematology.html Since my May blood work I have started on Thyroid helper and not only am I starting to feel somewhat better but my Cholesterol is down and I've managed to loose 7 lbs. I am now trying to convince my Dr that I need a tsh reading of 0.00 and as of this new blood work it isn't far away. He's decided against his better judgement to let me have my way about this. He's not made any adjustments this time but I am to let him know if I am feeling any heart palps. Or any other symtom that may indicate I need further adjusting. I am taking at present time Synthroid .15mg If anyone can see something that looks out of whack please let me know.... Quote
Guest guest Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Hi Sue, I would have to say it's the Thyroid Helper that is responsible for my lower cholesterol, weight loss and a general feeling of feeling better. I still have a ways to go but I believe my standing up for myself today was a good thing. My Dr. wanted to lower my Synthroid and I flatly refused, I am anxious to know whether I should be in the 000's TSH wise. He's also given me the address for a Naturapathic here in the city where I can get the real thyroid hormone not the synthetic form. I've decided this is going to be my over all main concern until I am feeling better. I will do whatever it takes to get myself feeling less like a disabled adult and more like a functioning adult. On one of my earlier post Sue I have posted a link to the site where I got this thyroid helper. Here it is Sue- http://www.wellnessresources.com/index.php -- In The_Thyroid_Support_Group , jytdtp wrote: > > Hi Tis, > > What do you think is causing the lowered cholesterol ‹ yours looks great > now‹just need to up your HDL, healthy cholesterol a bit! Guest guest Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Tis But I'm not understanding something here-----If you want your TSH further suppressed, you would WANT your dosage upped some more, this is how that works! But I do understand that you need your Free values of the thyroid hormones. He shouldn't be guessing, not doing these two tests. It is, however, the part about your statement about the TSH that I don't understand here. Hello Everyone > Since my last post I've given considerable thought to changing > Doctors. Today I went to my regular Dr only to be told No I can not > have a Free T-3 and Free T-4 tests done. Not only that but inspite of > what I've been saying to this Dr about how much better I've been > feeling since I've suppressed my THS. In this blood test all that > were taken were > TSH L@... 0.30-5.50 > Cholesterol > H@ 7.4 2.0-5.2 mmol/L. > LDL H@ 4.9 1.5-3.4 at risk 3.4 > HDL Cholesterol 1.2 >1.1 > HDL (Risk Ratio) H@ 6.2 <4.4 > Triglycerides H@ 2.8 <2.3 mmol/L > > Now for the best news of all because my Dr. totally disregarded what > I had to say about suppressing my TSH and contrary to what I said > went ahead and upped my dosage anyways. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I saw the phoenix on the website and it is so perfect for this disease and my life! My house burned down in '05 and I've not quite been the same. I really think that stress has so much to do with our health. I can go back to the death of my father (5yrs.ago Nov.1st) and see that after the accident, I developed several endocrine health problems. I have found that my chiropractor's treatment using the B.E.S.T. has been very helpful and also the EFT techniques from Dr.Mercola's site. I hope to not be negative but to encourage everyone. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I love your signature Jengeranium!! So cute! Many of us have stressors that activate our endocrine problems. Mine was having my mom check out as a kid when her father died. For about 7 years the house was chaotic and life sucked. Then I had massive allergies at the same time that really wreaked havoc on me and was the cause of a learning disability I have. I moved away and was under so much stress my body just gave out. We all feel your pain... really:). lovingly, when life sucks... squirt the lemon juice in the bleeper's eye!! hello everyone I saw the phoenix on the website and it is so perfect for this disease and my life!
