Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 I've always wondered the same thing. Many folks who are using that testing facility are taking outrageous amounts of thyroid meds and so I've always wondered how accurate they really are. Does anyone have experience with them, and as Kate asked, in relationship to other tests done in the same timeframe? How reliable are they? Meaning, the readings-did anyone have labs drawn from their doctor that pretty much was in line with canaryclub? All-new Yahoo! Mail - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster. Quote

Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Hi Kate, The saliva tests I had done were right in line in terms of blood work I had for like tests in the same time period. They send you a kit of 6 tubes to spit in and pour off into. That simple. They give you the box to return it in and you pay postage back to them and wait for your results. There is no blood to draw, these are saliva tests. Sue How reliable are they? Meaning, the readings-did anyone have labs drawn from their doctor that pretty much was in line with canaryclub? How are these things packed, how do you draw blood and what does the return package look like? I'm trying to figure out how the blood is protected from the elements (heat/cold poor carrier handling etc?) Curious minds would like to know? ;-D ~Kate p.s. will be here later to respond to another post. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Blood tests are no more reliable in all honesty — I once had my choesterol come in at 950! I was afraid to move, thinking I was a walking heart attack. I went into the lab for a redraw and got the results more accurately the second time. I just read an article (can’t remember where) about a ton of blood vials that were not properly sealed and got exposed to condensation, etc. and were still used and gave back bad readings. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 That's good to know, thanks Sue! My daughter is coming for a visit and won't have USA health insurance, but I wanted to test her levels of various things. Plus, I've always been interested in the 24 hour adrenal testing. I had some saliva and blood testing at the doctor's office, but haven't used a mail-order service. Did you use Canary Club?... Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Hi Judy, Yes I used Canary Club — they are an actual lab, and I emailed one of the docs on staff and then paid for a phone consultation. In conjunction with that, I had a complete physical with a full panel of blood work at my own doc, a complete thyroid panel at my endo, and a hair analysis. All showed the same thing: improper thyroid function at the cellular level, and overactive adrenal glands. I am hoping the switch to Armour will show an improvement when I retest in a couple months. Thing is I feel FINE —I sleep 8 hours a night compared to 6 a year ago, I have high energy levels, good mood, etc... I just can’t lose weight... Sue That's good to know, thanks Sue! Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Thanks Judy......yes I think that things do affect absorption of Armour. I'm on 6 grains, but then I was on a hefty dose of thyroxine too, 300mcgs, I tried Armour about 3 years ago at 3 grains and when my TSH shot up to over 6.00 I thought it wasn't working and switched back. Have been on it this time around 5 months. This time I started at 3 grains( I knew I'd need a lot more) and increased by symptoms I have just gone gluten-free and am going to hold this dose for quite a bit until I get the g/f diet sorted . My adrenals seem to be fine, which amazes me..............Judy -------Original Message------- From: Judy P That's a great question Meleese, as everyone's 'outrageous' limits are totally individual. I don't remember all of the examples, but one that comes to mind was a woman taking 8.5 grains of Armour and about to go to 9 grains along with a bunch of hydrocortisone. I'm not standing in judgement, I just remember thinking 'whoa nelly' LOL, so I guess that's my definition of outrageous. The highest combination that I can remember was 175mcg synthetic plus 5-1/2 grains Armour (and still testing hypo). I'm not saying that they don't need those doses, just that it made me start wondering about the accuracy of the mail-order testing... Judy What do you define as "outrageous" amounts of thyroid meds? Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 What does this actually mean Sue? How does this show up on the tests? I've been wondering about how they can tell if what shows up in my bloodstream is actually being used by my cells. Does this explain why some folks can have fabulous labs and still feel crappy most of the time? Is it treated the same way?... Judy All showed the same thing: improper thyroid function at the cellular level. How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates. Quote

Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 I am not really sure except that it’s supposed to be a more accurate gauge than what is flowing thru your blood and they can see this in the saliva and hair, I am told. It shows what your body is actually doing with the thryoid hormone, I suppose, other than affecting blood tests... I think Topper knows a bunch about this. I am still curious — how would MAIL ORDER tests be affected any differetly than a local lab due to the amount of hormone someone takes? am corn-fused by that part you wrote ... Did you know a lot of US labs actually outsource our tests now, including xrays, to 3rd world countries as they do with customer service? sue What does this actually mean Sue? Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 There is a little bitty woman (documented) who takes around 10 grains of Armour or so and is finally well and healthy. She suffered chemical exposure and probably has multiple chemical sensitivity, to the point that her cellular reception was kicked out. That's usually the reason for that, and yes, it is soooo individual. That would probably kill most people, I know it would me, but it was her saving grace. Guest guest Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 That's the problem, Judy, that noone does know what's going on at the cellular level except by the way you feel, as you go along on increases. We are a very polluted world now, and I don't think that a human being's body is likely the same, on acct of these things. Re: Reliability Re:canaryclub.org What does this actually mean Sue?
