I just finished a phone conversation with Carl Weinert. To my very surprised he

called me back. (He never called me back when I was researching treatment for

. His staff told me to get a referral for an interview, which I did). He

contradicted the information I received from his nurse.

He said that what impressed him at the October seminar in Iowa was the

development of the calf muscle while using the DBB vs AFO. DBB allows kicking

with both feet. AFO does not allow much of movement and the calf muscle is left

unexercised and undeveloped (at least that). I also reminded him that the

relapse rate is way higher with the AFO vs DBB. He said that he has been

practicing the Ponseti method since coming back from the October seminar. Some

of his patience were not able to tolerate the DBB and he had suggested AFOs for

them. I suggested him getting in contact with for those cases.

It was obvious though that he is catering to parents and letting them use

whatever is easier for them - like AFOs (he said he has a great supplier for his

AFOs). That's where I disagree. The whole point is to prevent relapse and any

surgery. That is why we all are so committed to the bar. Looks like is not

that committed to the bar and he is not explaining the importance of the bar to

the parents. He asked me to get the shoes and bar if possible and take

it to him.

Well, it will be great if he can be convinced about the importance of the bar.

He said that he has almost been using the Ponseti method. That's what he told

me 1.5 yrs ago. Hopefully he is using the Ponseti method without any changes.

As I have seen from posts, children who have had problems with their feet not

being corrected 100% had greater problems with the shoes (besides the atypical

feet). Hopefully that is not the case for those patients of his who have had

big problems with the bar.

It will make a big change for So CA to have the chief of Children's hospital of

orange county adopt and follow the Ponseti protocol 100%.

I will get the shoes and bar + extra literature and take them to him.

Hope this gives some of you useful info.

Re: Re: Question

Dear ,

We are in Orange County, too. I had the dilemma about where to go, too.

I wrote to Dr. Ponseti and he answered me soon after regarding doctors

in Orange County. Here is what he said, I am sure this will be a big

help to you and may help you avoid a trip to Tarzana since he recommends

a doctor here in Orange County. Here is the actual text of his email:

Dear Mrs. Hewitt:

Before a physician is added to my web site, I request that he send me

the photos of the feet of three babies he has treated showing the feet

before treatment was started and after it was complete, etc. In today's

mail I received this information from two California physicians: Dr.

Carl Weinert, Jr., 1310 West Dr., Suite 508, Orange, California

phone 714 633-2111 and Dr. Lerman, Shriners Hospital, 2425

Stockton Blvd., Sacramento CA 95817 phone 916 453-2049 The photos

submitted by each of these physicians show excellent results and their

names will be added to our web site.

If I can be of further service or answer questions for you at any time,

don't hesitate to be in touch.

Hi ,

thanks for replying. We live in Santa Ana (Orange County).

Hall send me the link to the California available

Doctors and there are only two who we could choose from. Since

you are telling me that Dr. King is doing a good job we will

try him. I will read the protocol again and hopefully the

treatment is going to be as good as in Iowa.

How old is now? And how long was the treatment with the cast

for her?

Thank you so much for replying!!!

Dessi,

I am also going to try and contact his office at some point! I am excited

about someone in Orange County finally using the method, but we need to make

sure he is faithful and follows Ponseti's method to a tea!!!
