Guest guest
Idit, For over 99% of children treated with the Ponseti method there is no reason to postpone the tenotomy. This has been time tested and is the truth. However, I dont think it would be harmful if the doctor does chose to postpone to 12 months. At 12 months the foot is still nicely flexible. My only concern would be what is being done in the mean time .. is the child being casted a birth then left in equinus for that long, or is the casting not being done until close to 1 year? The only real concer here is how it effects learning to stand and walk. In fact, not doing a tenotomy until 12 mo could help a few - if Kai had not had a tenotomy done unti l 12 mo he probably would not be having the problems he is .... but he is in a bracket of less than one percent of all clubfoot children. I would say not to worry about Oshri's tenotomy .. the timing has been time-tested as fine. And for the child having the late tenotomy, I would not worry either. Angel A question about the timing in tenotomy. Dear parents. I am a member in a forum in Israel, where every Dr. uses deferent techniques to treat CF. (even some of those how SAY they use the Ponseti method.) Lately someone wrote that her Dr. never perform the tenotomy before the age of 1 year because the ligaments are too week before that age. I really don't have an answer to the mother and I'm truly wonder about the tenotomy my son had when he was 2 month old. Did anyone heard about the week ligaments? Idit, mom to Oshri, 7 month. Guest guest
Idit, I don't believe that there has been any problems with weak ligaments when performing tenotomies on young babies. Delaying the tenotomy to wait until after a year would leave the foot in an uncorrected position longer than needed. The earlier the correction and tenotomy, the earlier the bones of the foot can be growing in a corrected position. and (3-17-99) > Dear parents. > I am a member in a forum in Israel, where every Dr. uses deferent > techniques to treat CF.
