Are we still supposed to do this? Ridley has the yellow bar. I think this is the older one. He still slips out of the shoe often and can pull his foot no matter how tight I pull the strap ( Now at the 7th hole) maybe it's because of the lack of this Plastizote? Any thoughts anyone? Anyone got a picture they could email me directly as I've lost access to the yahoo groups page ....again. Thanks Melitsa Little miracles happen everyday. _________________________________________________________________ Find a cheaper internet access deal - choose one to suit you. http://www.msn.co.uk/internetaccess
Guest guest
Melitsa, We just got new Markell shoes and they do have the plastizote on them. In our old shoes we didn't have one: the orthootist didn't know that he was suppose to put it- so we made one ourselves. You can go to Oshri's site: http://truly_clubfoot.tripod.com it is in Hebrew but- the leftist link on the top frame will take you to the photos. idit, oshri's mom. 7 month DBB 16-18 hours. > Kori you wrote/quoted from the webpage: A strip of plastizote must be glued > inside the counter of the shoe above the baby's heel to prevent the shoes > from slipping off. > > Are we still supposed to do this? Guest guest
Hi Idit, your pictures were great! I just wanted to mention though, that the pictures at the very bottom where you have the different shoes and DBB's..at the very end of those, where there is a baby pictured wearing the DBB, it looks like the bar is set a bit too narrow (ie., inner edges of heels should be about shoulder width apart). Just thought I'd mention it. Guest guest
We got our new Markell shoes locally in South Africa this time, instead of Iowa. They don't come with the plastizote in when supplied from Markell, so Iowa must still be adding them. I must say we're a little disappointed with the new style shoes. has been in them for only a month, the (shorter) straps are stretching already and his left foot has slipped out three times. His feet never slipped out once in 10 months wear of the old style shoes (with the plastizote in) that were supplied when we went to Dr Ponseti. I agree that the tongue isn't great, although I have left it in so far because he hasn't had marks on the top of his foot. Yes, it's padded, but it's much shorter and narrower than the old one. It would be really nice to have a lighter bar. We have the red one, not only is it very heavy (a lethal weapon at times!), but the black plastic clamps are too flimsy. They've snapped twice (we had the bar strapped up with insulation tape until replacements arrived). The clamps also seem to loosen and move along the bar sometimes, so that when I get him up in the morning, the bar is all loose and half the size! I tighten them at least once a week now. It sounds like they are working on improved FAB's for us in Iowa, so I'm optimistic that the shoes and bar situation can improve in the future. We certainly don't want another pair like these ones when it's time to replace again. I will contact to see how his shoes will work for older babies and also find out if it's practical for him to supply us any direct to South Africa. In the meantime Iowa will have to post us some new inserts. and (24th Jan 2003 bilateral cf) Been in FAB since May 2003, now on 14 hours per day
