Guest guest
" Got the new Markell shoes and they caused huge sore on Isabella's top foot " , Take the tongue out of the shoe! When I was in Iowa shortly before the release of the new shoes, both and Dr. Ponseti told me of their concerns that the extra padding on the tongue - put there for comfort, and a very good idea in theory - would cause pinching when the strap was pulled down tightly. I can tell you that taking the tongue out won't hurt the way the shoe fits or how it works. Because Kai had extra soft tissue on the top of his foot for a long time, we battled pinching where the strap came across. Dr. Ponseti finally told me to just take the tongue off the shoe and use it that way (and this was with the OLD shoes!) After that, we never had another problem with sores or pinching where the strap came across. Angel
Guest guest
Angel, Thank you so much for replying to me. I was starting to think no one would reply to my post. I didn't even think about taking the tongue out. They are the new shoes and they put a plastizoid in the back of the heel and I read on here that it wasn't necessary to have that so I took it out and was hoping that would help. I now will take your advice and take the tongue out, I don't know why i didn't think of that before. She has had red marks forever but not this bad. I should of took out the tongue long ago. Thank you Thank you Thank you. I will let you know tomorrow how it turned out. > " Got the new Markell shoes and they caused huge sore on Isabella's top foot " > > , > > Take the tongue out of the shoe! Guest guest
, we had the same problem with the new shoes! I ended up switching the tongues with his old pair of shoes. The red marks never totally went away but they didn't seem to bother him....until about a month ago when his right foot blistered where the sore was. Dr. Pirani's orthotist took a look at it - she had never seen nor heard of this happening before - and suggested that I move the straps to the lower openings on the sides of the shoes and also to loosen the strap by one hole when doing them up. She suggested using moleskin to heal the sore. I didn't use the moleskin but I did follow her other suggestions. It helped and the blister healed. He still had slight red marks but they don't bother him. Also, when I fasten the straps now, I pull the tongue up so that the strap crosses his foot in a higher position and not on top of where the sore is. I did mention it to Jay Markell back in the fall when it first happened - I attributed it to the stitching on the inside of the tongue where the extra padding is and noted that the tongue in the new shoe was both narrower and shorter than the tongue in the new shoe. I'm not sure if that was the problem because, as I mentioned, Owen got a blister 4 months later using the old tongue. I think it just may have been pinching. Anyway, hope this helps!
