Guest guest
Didn't you know that " great Sex" is great exercise? You should be taking off pounds! That's why I can't take off pounds--I've been a widow for almost 6 yrs. Believe me --it makes a difference! hahaha

Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am new to this group and new to hearing loss. My son is 10 weeks old and has been classified as moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears. We found this out because he failed his newborn hearing screening in the hospital. Since then he has has 2 more hearing screening and 2 ABR test. He has another test scheduled for March 17th when he will get fitted for his hearing aids as well. We live in East Meadow, NY and I am currently looking into service centers for programs for him. Actually I am deciding between Boise and Mill Neck Manor, if anyone has any opinions on the two I would appreciate it. I have a 2 year old daugther with normal hearing. Guest guest
Hi Marni - welcome to Listen-up! There are other listserve buddies who are from NY - thinking Jill in particular - who may be able to help you. I know you must be reeling right about now with a new baby with hearing loss as well as a toddler. Just remember, there are no stupid questions - we've all been in your shoes to some degree. I'm Barbara, mom of Tom who is 13 and Sam who's 11. They both are deaf. Tom recently received a cochlear implant (about 3 months ago) - it's been fabulous! He wears his hearing aid on his non-implanted ear I think more as a comfort zone than anything else. Sam wears two hearing aids but he's now going through the workups for an implant also. Neither of my boys were diagnosed at birth - we lived in Louisiana when Tom was born and moved to NH and then had Sam and neither screened newborns for hearing loss at the time. Tom was diagnosed with his hearing loss when he was 3-1/2 years old; Sam was 15 months. they both are doing well now - both are mainstreamed in our town's public schools with help from a teacher of the deaf, etc. Of course having a teenager is always interesting! I'm glad you're here. Barbara Marni Krauthamer wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I am new to this group and new to hearing loss. Guest guest
Welcome Marni - I have a now 14 year old who was diagnosed with the same level of hearing loss as your little one, only she wasn't diagnosed until 3 3/4 years old! She has done well, despite being very behind at diagnosis. We did Auditory Verbal therapy and she has always been mainstreamed. She goes to private school where they have been wonderfully accomodating. She has flourished academically and socially too. So have high expectations for your little guy, he can do anything he wants to do! in GA
Guest guest
Hi Marni, I'm having a dezavous reading your post. My son, Ozzie is now 5 months old. He was diagnosed at 2 months with moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears. A CT scan found that he has enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome (LVAS)...He began wearing his hearing aids at 3 months old. The blessing with early diagnoses, he accepts and tolerates his hearing aids very well. Since we both have babies at this point, feel free to email me directly at anytime (posdirection@...). I don't know where you are emotionally...but I was blown away at the beginning...and sometimes still sway *smile*...allow yourself to feel and express everything...not to minimize all the future holds....but now it just seems " normal " for my little guy to have his hearing aids and hearing issues, etc. Peace, Love & Harmony to you, ~Carolyn (from North Carolina) > > > Hi everyone, > > I am new to this group and new to hearing loss. & nbsp; My > son is 10 weeks old and has been classified as > moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears. & nbsp; We found > this out because he failed his newborn hearing > screening in the hospital. & nbsp; Since then he has has 2 > more hearing screening and 2 ABR test. & nbsp; He has another > test scheduled for March 17th when he will get fitted > for his hearing aids as well. & nbsp; We live in East Meadow, > NY and I am currently looking into service centers for > programs for him. & nbsp; Actually I am deciding between > Boise and Mill Neck Manor, if anyone has any opinions > on the two I would appreciate it. & nbsp; I have a 2 year old > daugther with normal hearing. > > Marni > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Hi Marni, I'm Kerry, Mom to Hadley, who is now 4 1/2 years old. She, too, was diagnosed with her hearing loss through newborn screening. She has a bilateral severe hearing loss due to Connexin 26. She received her hearing aids at 6 months and started auditory-verbal therapy the next day. Hadley has had no delays in her speech or language development; just your average, happy kid who happens to have hearing aids in her ears (she actually describes them as her " beautiful hearing aids " !). We all had a ton of questions and concerns in the beginning (and continue to at different stages in the process!). Ask away and don't hold back! kerry Hello Hi everyone, I am new to this group and new to hearing loss. My son is 10 weeks old and has been classified as moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears.
